Today we had the w140 on the lift, we replaced the oil pressure switch, and cleaned the bottom of the engine and actually found the main cause of my oil leak which was the oil level sensor which is located in the oil pan. That little sensor made it look like the upper oil pan was leaking. We found the exact location of the transmission leak and it turns out i need a power steering pump seal kit.

I think I have the same problem! Was the oil pressure gauge working? Mine will work sometimes and will register when the car is in park and the engine is revved. Was the oil leaking on the exhaust?

I have leaks onto the exhaust but that is from my transmission (small $1 part that has a $600 labor to it). My oil pressure gauge sometimes would stop working. But my leak was from the oil level sending unit. A small leak covered the whole lower portion of the engine. We cleaned the whole engine and ran the car on the lift with a fan at the front of the car too find leaks but was surprised to see it was only that small part. We ran the car for over 30minutes and then i drove it for 2 hours and still only that part was leaking. It was to the point when we thought the rear main seal was leaking but it wasnt.

The oil pressure sending unit I got was from vdo and it seems okay but it reads lower from a manual pressure gauge. Its okay because it doesn't flop around like the old unit. Attached a picture of the oil level sensor.

Thank you for the info. I'll keep that in mind when I take to car to the shop. I'm having a lower, rear, control arm bushing replaced. I've done it before but without the proper tools it was a B!#*ch to replace. With the small press tool it can be done on the car. I don't have that tool. LOL

Damn, missed one bullet just to get hit with another.

Aw well, it all comes with classic car ownership. Back in time when I was going through my "British bike phase" in life, I figured it took an hour a week to have a reliable ride and got nervous if they stopped leaking, ha!

It honestly isnt too bad considering i dodged a few bullets on this w140. Two months ago i thought the water pump was leaking but it was only a top seal $10 repair. The oil pan gasket is usually due for replacement around 100000miles on most cars and my car is at 149700
