You probably already got your answer from your other "new" forum, but yes a tank from a 500 or '95 E300 will fit physically BUT you will need to make sure you have the fuel tank sender and fuel tank gauge from the donor to keep everything accurate.

I need to find one of those big tanks for my 260E/300E. When i accumulate bonus points from my local grocery store (Giant) I get money off the price of gas. I've been up to $1.70 off per gallon for a single fill up. With a 20 gallon max.

I want to use that max!

They don't like it when I pull a couple of gas cans out of the trunk.

The trunk is designed to securely hold two 20L NATO jerry cans in the side pockets. I take full advantage of the 20cent to $1 off per gal up to 25gal at Safeway and Von's. 1000 miles between fill ups is easy. The station attendant doesn't seem to care if the fuel goes into the tank or trunk.

Jerry can's aren't legal on many of the roads I have to drive and I if I'm going to fill with a jerry can, I might as well stop and get diesel. The tank needs to be cleaned and I figure if I'm in there, why not get me more range so I only have to fill up once a week.

Most things worth doing aren't legal.
