Whoohoo. I am coming due for a B-service and have some other things to do. I had been going to Tafel, but they aren't cheap. I will be there in a couple of weeks.

I didn't know about this Indy but I travel to Louisville for weekends quite often. Passing through Lexington once, I had a CEL pop up. I finished my drive to the 'ville and Tafel worked me in Monday morning. They diagnosed a bad O2 sensor and told me I was safe to drive it back home if I chose, but I would have to pay for the diagnosis which would be included if I had them fix it. They had the part so I went ahead with them but it was not exactly bargain basement. In their defense though, I think they are a well run dealership as dealers go.

He is repainting my 300cd right now. He used to be a few doors down from Don at Autobahn and a lot of Don's customers have come to him with their Mercedes. He always has 4 or 5 Mercedes in the lot. He doesn't have a lot of overhead so he is very reasonable. Not only that but he does awesome work and is a great person also.

I've owned two(2) W140's, a 190E and now a W208. Nobody touches my cars except Don and the guys @ AutoBahn Motors in Louisville, KY. Benz exclusive side, and now they have a BWM side. The bays a seperated buy an office.

I've been going to these guys since the early 2000's, and with the W140's, they've been forced to get so intimate with the cars, they partically made love to the cars, (and my wallet). But their pricing is fair, they shoot straight up, tell what you NEED, what can WAIT, and HOW LONG YOU'VE got. I go out of my way to get to these guys. Nice facility they moved into off of Poplar Level Road, too, although I miss the grimey old little shop they used to be in off of Mellwood.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!(AUTOBAHN MOTORS)

Two messages up,I wrote that one about Don and Shawn and the
guys.Now I am writing another one.Anyone who owns a 560sl know the
mess under the dash and all the work and money it costs to do AC work
on it.My 560sl after all the work on it, the AC began to fail to cool(Had a
leak)Now you know and I know the guys could have blamed it on the
parts that I had got from Auto Haus and recouped their time and money
stoppin the leak. You and I wouldn't have known the difference.(Are
you or I going to go back in and check on it,I don't think so.)They kept the
560sl two days, fixed the leak and didn't charge me a cent. They also put
some sponge material in to stop the water from splashing over my wife's
feet.
I personally want to THANK ALL THE PERSONELL THAT WORKED ON THE
CAR!IT IS RARE AS HELL TO FIND AN HONEST REPAIR SHOP.IF YOUR
MERC OR SMART CAR OR BMW NEEDS WORK,YOU NEED TO TAKE IT TO
AUTOBAHN MOTORS.I HAVE TOLD ALL MY FRIENDS ABOUT AUTOBAHN
MOTORS.AGAIN UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a customer of Dutch Bogard at River City Imports in Jeffersonville across the river from Louisville for about 12 years. Always prompt, knows what he is doing, and fair on his prices. My wife recently bought a 1990 420 SEL and had neglected maintenance done. I had a cam replaced, main seal replaced and transmission seal replaced. There was an oil leak that showed up after the service. I told Dutch about it and he took the car back and redid the rear main seal. No charge, no problems, no hassles. Also, in general, really a personable guy. I believe that he told me he was trained at Tafel.

Autobahn and Tafel

I can vouch for the guys at Autobahn who did the PPI on my car - saved me a bundle in later surprises and were very patient with my dumb "new to the marque" questions. They have my business from here on out based on the previous posts and my PPI experience.

The service department at Tafel was very good to me on the pre-sale repairs that Autobahn found, but they were slow (I'm sure I was bottom of the priority list). Tafel also invited me to a "new owners" clinic, even though I probably bought one of the lowest priced cars on the lot. During the clinic I spoke at length with Tafel's service department shop foreman. Again, very patient and nice, although I've not done real repairs with them yet.

I have had great success with Autobahn Motors in Louisville. Don and his staff are knowledgeable, competent and go above and beyond to assist their customers. Any repairs that I can't do myself, I will take to Don. He drove quite a distance once to help me in time of need. He likes to take care of his customers.

I know some frown on "stealerships" and that at times they can be expensive but I have to admit I love Tafel motors. Matt my service advisor is very knowledagle on SL's and did not try and "up sell" me on sevices or parts. I bring all the stuff I find on eBay to them and they install it with no issue. I have had bad experiences with independants so just take it to dealerships to save the hassle of litigation. But I see that Autobahn comes highly recommended so I will certainly give them a try the next time I need services.

Are any of you members of MBCA? I recently switched my membership from Peachtree to Bluegrass Stars and wanted to get out and meet other members but the site was very bare.

I didn't think Tafel would use parts from eBay ..I would be shocked if they did that.. Normally, they only use new parts from their supplier only... That's been my experience with them..
