I'm still mad at them for making me purchase a $550 battery that turned out not to be the cause of the issue with my car a couple of weeks later  ...but Isn't that the ONLy choice KC area residents have. I know there is mb of kc but they are under aristocrat as well.

I strongly recommend Aristocrat Motors in the KC area. I bought my first car from them--a new 280SL--in 1970 and have used them for everything MB-related since then. (Aristocrat Motors - Splash -) They offer a 15% discount on all parts and labor for members of MBCA!

I know the service manager at MB of KC and he has developed quite a shop down there. In fact, they are moving to a new and much larger location this summer. There are also a number of indies that friends use and like. But Aristocrat has the oldest, largest and most respected rep. in the area. If Aristocrat really did what you say they would have made good on their mistake w/out question; so I'm not sure what to make of your claim.

Yeah, I heard(hopefully one with MORE parking). I actually live in the middle of the two. I really want to hear more on the independent KC area mercedes mechanic(They can be risky).
An as for aristocrat, I was just saying Aristocrat doesn't really have any competition in the KC area(due to the smaller size of KC) and lack of Mercedes shops. And I went in to their mechanic with the well known/documented "visit brake workshop" message on my w211. I explained I had no issue with braking and that I thought it was an issue with the SBC pump. They checked it out for about 2-3 hours came back and told me it was a power issue and I needed a new battery. I was already doubting this(especially since the battery was fairly new and I saw no other factors indicting this while driving). They suggested a battery which after taxes was well over $600 and on top of the standard cost to check codes it ran me nearly $800. Nevertheless, I specifically asked them would this fix the message I was receiving and they ASSURED me it would. Low and behold not a week later after new battery was installed, the message popped back up. Also, my cd changer went dead. I went in again about two weeks later, once again I told them I thought it was the SBC pump..and about 4 hrs of checking they came back and told me(drum roll...) that it was the SBC pump...and that the $1500+ fix was covered under a recall(the same issue I was telling them about). As for the cd changer they suggested a new one for $850(I opted out this fix assuming was just a electrical issue). I got my car a day later...and (drum roll...).the sbc pump fix actually fixed my cd changer(it was a power output issue). Anyway, I asked but I didn't get to have my old battery back :crybaby2:. but I was just glad I didn't take their advice and purchase the expensive cd changer :surrender: . I'm not saying aristocrat sucks just saying I had one very bad experience with them :crybaby2:. Could have just been my luck of the draw.

Wow! I'm glad you got the problem solved and it didn't cost you any money; but what a hassle it must have been for your. But that still doesn't sound like the company I've been doing business w/ for nearly 40 years.

Couple questions: Was that the first time you took your car to them or do your have a track-record there w/ that car? Would you mind telling me who the SA was? He should have caught that before all the missteps! They are usually much more attentive and knowledgeable. Maybe they have a problem or maybe you just got unlucky...

I actually had taken my car there for a routine oil change and a couple of other items(when I was doing a facelift on my w211). I say I had probably visited about 4-5 times. I had one main SA(Correct me if I am wrong but SA are not the ones who usually get down and dirty and figure out the issue..they just report what the mechanic found back to me)..but I do not recall his name whatsoever..shorter black guy with a goatee. I mean don't get me wrong. He was super nice and friendly and so were the other workers but I just wished he listen to me the first time when I told him about the SBC .

True the SAs there don't get their hands dirty, the techs do. But most of the SAs started out as techs and really know their way around our cars. I know the SA you had, but have no experience w/ him so cannot comment. The two best that I do know are Clinton Wong and Matt Minor. Ask for one of them the next time you visit.

Here's a pic of Clinton's fully modded Smart...

200 Miles until A Service

As a new MB owner I am looking for some guidance on where to take my 2001 S430. Doing research I noticed there are two main service centers, Aristocrat and MB of Kansas City. Does any one have comments to share? I would like to know about any experience with Star Motors in Brookside, Hafkemeyer, GI(German Import) Specialists in the northland and European Motor Sports as well.

Thanks....

I've used Aristocrat Motors for all my MB service since I bought my first one from them in 1970--a 280SL. There is no one else in our area that can compare when it comes to taking care of our cars, IMO.

Are you a member of MBCA? That Smart above belongs to one of Aristocrat's SAs, Clinton Wong. He is a member of our club and a really good guy.

Independence, MO. Service

Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the area's service providers.

I found a Great little shop in Independence MO called Euro Doc. He services BMW-Saab and Mercedes. The owner, Steve Esry, is factory trained in all Mercedes related issues as he was a service tech @ Aristocrat. He brings 25 years to the table and is very knowledgeable.

Here is the Shop information:

Autodino in Lenexa

I've got a 2005 E55 and I just had my car serviced (the expensive one) by Chris Hill at Autodino. Chris used to me a mechanic for either or both Aristocrat and Scholfield M-B in Wichita for many years. He now specializes in exotics like Ferraris and Maseratis, but he absolutely knows his way around M-Bs, Porsches, etc. Plus he's about 20-40% cheaper than the dealerships. He was very thorough with my car and saved me about $200 on my service ($600 through dealership, $400 through him).

Thanks for the info, Jayhawk! I had no idea about the discount. Do you just have to tell them you're a member or do they have some way of verifying?

Based on your nickname, I can only assume you're a KU alum. I'm a '95 and '98 grad. When were you there, or are you still?

Just tell them your a member. I don't think they ask to see membership proof.

I'm retired KU faculty: Research professor in special ed when I took early retirement a few years ago. Rock Chalk...

KH Automotive - KS

The two KC area dealers really do treat MBCA members well, but I have found that they are geared, for obvious reasons, to the newer cars. I have a 1987 560SL that I take to KH Automotive, which is down the street from Aristocrat. The owner is a 20yr veteran of Aristocrat and really knows MB's inside and out, including the older models. I simply like the idea of the same person working on my car each time that I take it in. No offense to the excellent dealerships we have, but all techs are not equal in their diagnostic and repair abilities. Kevin Hinckle (the owner) also is experienced enough to know when to send someone back to the dealer when the situation calls for it. Kurt Bednar works with Kevin and he is also a 17 year veteran MB tech.

Here's another Jayhawk that votes for Aristocrat. Had my '04 240 C-class routinely serviced there. Clinton Wong is outstanding as a service advisor.

I just traded for an '08 E350 and fully intend to take it there for service.

I haven't had as good of luck with their sales department though........:(
