hey im a newbie to MB so be gentle, can anyone please explain to me, what a "kompressor" is, what it does and why does it cost so much extra????

It's the german designation for superchargers. Superchargers are belt driven fans/turbines that increase the amount of air driven into the fuel/air mixture. Turbochargers are similar, but use exhaust gasses to spin the fans/turbines. Like any belt driven device, it does take some engergy from the engine, but the additional HP from the enriched combustion charge more than offsets the loss.

ok so in its essence the kompressor is a superchrger.. in your opingion, is it better than just having a bigger engine??

Very few things are better than having a bigger engine. . . as they say, there is no substitute for cubic inches [:D] However, supercharges and turbochargers, properly installed on an engine whose internals can take it and matched with a tuned fuel system, are cost effective methods of getting a lot more HP out of a smaller, low compression engine.
