Yesterday I was looking at a 1990 190E 2.3 Sportline 5 speed manual with a view to a possible purchase. These are extremely rare in Australia and this original example presented very well considering its 217,000km.

My only observation of a possible problem was that the air conditioner did not seem very cold. It may only be low on refrigerant due to a minor leak or do the W201s suffer the evaporator failure the W124s are well known for? If so, is it a big job to replace (as with the W124)?

Does this model have any other known problems? I am familiar with the problems of other models I own or have owned, however the only W201 I have owned was a fairly new 180E ('92 190E 1.8) and that was only for a short period of time. The owner has a pile of receipts for work he has had done and it would appear that there is little left that will need attention in the near future.

My apologies if this subject has been previously covered here, but I only view this forum occasionally. I am normaly on the W124 and 107 forums.
