hello, am new to this thread, i need help.
sometime ago a family friend broke the key to my mothers A160 in the ignition switch, we had a new key cut and programmed by a key specialist hoping it ll work, but no luck, we then went to a scrap yard, got a used ecu and key locks with its key from a scrapped benz, still didnt work,,all it does from both tries is turn the dash on, but doesnt start the car, do we need to buy a new key from MB dealers? or what can i do? please help with solutions, thanks
P.S i live in africa :D

The transponder on these Mercedes keys are what is called "rolling code" type.
Every time the ECU and key transponder communicate a new code is generated and comes into play.
As a result it renders the copies useless. Well I have a copy but just to open the door in an emergency. It surely don't do nothing in the ignition as you probably already notice.
So authorized dealer is the answer. ;-)
