Does anyone know a locksmith in the Texas region who can make mercedes keys. The locks are not the original (so using the VIN # and dealership won't work) I only had one key and the tow guy lost it......I'm needing some help thanks!!

The tow guy will be paying for the locksmith – yes?
The dealership should do it provided you've got the proper papers (try a different dealer?). $38 a key, eek.

But these things are laser cut. Kinda hard to find somebody to make em.
Um....i think the problem you have to worry about now is not where to get a key...it's how to replace the locks. Especially if the tow guy 'lost' it.

Possibly he held onto it to get the car or stereo later, and also, ignition cannot be 'picked' or otherwise opened without the key, without permanent damage. Doors are not too bad, but the trunk and ignition locks are simply too secure in their locking mechanism and mounting, and the internal parts are a bit weak, if forced open, they will likely get stuck the next time you lock it (by design?).

Sorry for the bad news.
I think he means the locks were changed by PO. and if there was only one key, chances are the locks are not matched to the original, otherwise he would have a bunch of extra keys (original+ones that came with the matched lock)
One more thing, the laser-cut-only thing is only partially true. You can machine cut these keys also, but they are most likely to be brass instead of the original steel.
$38 dollars is expensive for the key. Why don't you just buy a new door lock? They'll give you a free key (technically you're still paying for the key)
Wow, I completely missed the door lock part. I think that means it's time to get some sleep.
A lock set for this car is 776.00 not including labor.

thanks
How much is your car worth?

Car keys from a dealership thats under $50 is cheap in my book. Have you priced out other makes prices on keys when ordering from a dealershio????
You should be glad you don't have a newer Mercedes that utilizes the smartkey. You don't even want to know how much a key costs for that car!!
It's in GREAT SHAPE...not worth getting rid of because of a key issue
So is your car still there? I emphasize that these cars look like they are worth a lot more than actually are. I think the tow truck guy might 'find' the keys and 'test drive' your benz if it's in such good condition.

Have you figured out what you are going to do yet?

you'd have to modify it, get the key part switched with the ebay one. I think its do-able... and was thinking of doing one myself some time.
Yes it is doable, if your locksmith can cut the "laser cut" mercedes keys, you should be good to go.
It's stored away in a storage warehouse on the otherside of town
