Key stuck in door

2967 Views 19 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  NZ Benz
Hello

My car has been sitting for two weeks and when I should unlock it with the remote the doors were not unlocked. So I opened the drivers door manually with the key. OK. Only problem is that I can not get that darn key out of the lock! It is stuck and of course i can not start the car. ????

This is maybe caused by a bad battery. Unfortunately i parked the car so close to the wall it will be very difficult to open the trunk where the battery is! Is there any jump start connections in the engine bay??

I am getting sick and tired of this car it is a 1996 s500.

Any help appreciated!!

Man, I feel for you being stuck like this. You can get a charger that fits the lighter in the front if your sure the battery is flat.

What's the temp there? It may just be frozen in the lock.

And I'd sell that thing for sure if it's got a dead battery. What kind of rims you got?
ROFL, your too much man. :D
holy crap.

Ive never tried to use the keys to unlock the car. Ive always used the remote.

let me try it...
Call Mercedes Benz roadside assistance. I tihnk that such problem is covered by the free lifetime roadside assitance. I do not have the phone number handy, but it should be on your driver visor or in your manual booklet.

Well considering his location.....you think your number will work. ;)
put the car in neutral and push it away from the wall to get into the trunk.

and i ALWAYS use my key to get into my car because the damn locks are retarted and i dont have the money to pay for a new pump. the keyless only undoes the rear doors and the trunk, the front driver side must be done manually, and that doesnt even undo the passenger side, i have to reach across and pull it up. sometimes it'll go up with the driver side, but thats rare.

You need the key to move the shifter.
no you just need to press the brake to move the shifter ...remember when you had issues with Neutral safety switch ;-)

Yea and I had to turn the key I'm sure of it otherwise the shifter would not move even with the brake depressed. Hmm I'll have a go next time I'm in the car.
Why so strange system??

The big issue here is WHERE CAN POWER BE APPLIED in the engine bay area or in the coupe in w140. I know that at least in my car there is not possible to go into neutral with the gear selector without power. It is locked. Also it would be very interesting if someone could explain how the vacuum locks are designed and why Mercedes chosed them before electrical. Thanks!
To charge the battery through the lighter you'll need to have the ignition switched one from on (so that power would normally go to the lighter). To do that you'll need to get the key out of the door lock. You could do it if you have a 2nd key. However, if the battery is totally dead then charging it though the lighter probably isn't going to resurrect it.
there definantly should be a "main" feed to the engine bay somewhere.... to the main fuse box maybe??? then you can earth anywhere on the body... somewhere unpainted is best... ill go have a look under my hood and see what i can find... or what about a trolley jack on either side at the rear? jack it up and roll it forward... or jack one side and drop the drive shaft off the diff end then move it.....
my brother once shifted the car into drive but the car was not on. he was unaware of it but found out real quick when the power steering wasn't working lol. if u depress the brake and shift, it should go into neutral.

I almost forgot to post, on my car I tried last night you can't move the shifter unless the key is turned to the first position the one before ACC.
Ok i had my transmission rebuilt and i can definately move the shifter anyway i want as long as i press the break pedal...it may be related to the fact its 1992 or something wasnt connected properly during the rebuilt

They came new with a bunch of keys but they get lost over the years, mine only had one remote when I got it, I had to get spare keys made up.
Problem fixed

Both problems are now fixed. I used the other key to get power through the lighter and by that it was possible to push the unlock button and open the trunk. I connected a battery to the old battery and started the car. But it did not start, only turnover. I had to lock and unlock with the IR key as well and after that the engine could be started. The key stucked in the door got loose after some bending and pulling. I strongly recommend you gentlemen to exercise these locks once in awhile. Also I found that the new S/class has the battery in the trunk and a additional battery in the engine room. Maybe Mercedes has learned something.

Of course the remote would have enabled the immobliser in the car. Wow glad you got it sorted.
