I disengaged the battery today to install a fog light (probably didnt have to). After the installation, I reconnected the battery and discovered that I could not lock the car. I was able to start the car and drive perfectly normally. I also tested the batteries and they were good.

Anyone know whats going on? I did some searching here and didnt find the answer.

Check fuse #8 in the rear panel (in the trunk). Also, try switching the remote from global to selective unlocking (press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for five seconds until the LED on the fob blinks.

Checked the fuse and it seemed fine. Might put another one in there just to be sure. Also did the selective unlocking thing, no dice. I imagine if I call the guys at the dealer they will tell me to bring it in. I dont want to sell a kidney so Im prob not going to do that.

I was test driving a 2005 clk cabrio and the remote can only unlock door from the passenger side. When standing on the driver side, it doesnt work and i had to walk over to the passenger to unlock the doors. Is it the battery or something wrong on the driver side.

Hi there,

I know its been a while, but anyone know what to do if both remote switches don't work and all the fuses in the trunk are all good? The car (2003 w203 coupe) locks and unlocks with the metal glovebox key and turns on and drives fine... It has been a few days now and there has been no change. Anyone know what to do?

Also, I checked every fuse under the hood (on the side opposite the battery) and in the trunk (by the first aid kit)... Is there a third fuse panel? I couldn't find one under the drivers side dash when the door was open (as mentioned in the w203 fuse forum). Is there one there in the coupe?

Thanks,

Ryan

Ok I realized that this happened the day after I tinted my rear windshield. Is the receiving sensor in the rear windshield or is this a coincidence?? I can easily remove the tint but I spent a lot of time on it so if anyone knows, please let me know.

Yes, the antenna amp is attached to the rear glass. Applying the tint probably dislodged it from the glass, so now it is no longer connected to the wire embedded in the glass. On this coupe, getting to the amp is easier - just remove the trim on the inside of the hatch frame. You may be able to press the amp back in place and get some signaling to work.
