I have an 85 500amg.It's purely cosmetic.I have complete ground effects and 17'' amg aero rims.I love the car,but performance-wise the w126 does not offer much except exhaust.I notice there seems to be a lot for you w201 owners.I want to jump into a 190e and fix up,(skirts, wheels, engine, and exhaust). However I've been told by a few benz owners and mechanics that the 190e engines especially the 2.3 are troublesome and lack power. Please help.

Well IF I had the money... I'd take a 190 or a new C and transplant a whole different engine in it. If the 560SEL engine fit in either I would do that ideally. But I doubt that size engine would fit. Take one of the AMG engines and put it in there. And mod the crap out of it (total exhaust headers and all, intake, etc etc). That way you have lots of HP w/ a lightish car.

A 560SEL can move along really nicely, for that size car of course. I would take one of those and make it high performance and race every damn civic in this state! (and win of course!)

I am guessing you've got the funds to do this kind of stuff, since you've got an S class 500 w/ all that stuff you got on it. And you're wanting another benz to do the same to...

Key here is big engine, small car.

1. Neither one is a real AMG car.

2. If you want an affordable AMG car, look at the C36 -- they are becoming available around $20,000.

3. I doubt a 560 would fit in a 190 engine bay. Unless you're a very skilled mechanic and have lots of time, IMO it's a waste of time and $$ to try to substitute engines -- the transmission may well have to be replaced to handle additional torque, the engine electronics will be different, the brakes and suspension will probably need upgrading, the additional weight of the bigger engine will change the handling dynamics, etc. For what's probably close to the same amount of $$, you can get a C36 and have a real AMG car that's been properly thought out and put together [and won't be wearing a fake AMG badge].

4. Alternatively, buy an E420 and put in a Kleemann supercharger and Kleemann suspension for $18,000 plus $2,500 -- supercar performance for under $40,000.
