I have a 190d 2.5 turbo. The transmission is on its way out the door, but the engine is great! It has 196000 miles, but the engine runs great. I was either thinking of selling the 190 and getting a 300e? What's your opinion? The 190 is in good condition other than the trans. Also how much do you think a trans rebuild will cost?

Keep the 190!! The turbo diesel is much more collectable than the 300e, not to mention better looking!

A good used transmission runs around $500.

I live in NC, i would do a 5speed swap, BUT i already have a 5 speed TDI. I at least want one auto to drive in heavy traffic. Should i get the trans in there now fixed? Or get a used one?

Do you know what is wrong with the trans? What are the symptoms?

I believe i will keep it, i am not really mechanically inclined. Is the transmission that difficult to change? Where would you recommened me to get a transmission, or rebuilt? - Thanks, Ben.
