Just thought I'd let you know I ordered a K&N replacement air filter for my 113 yesterday :D, I'll let you all know if I see much improvement once I've installed it!

I know from the motorcycle side that K&N filters arn't allowed to flow any more air than standard filters, i would think the only advatage would be by fitting an induction kit and doing away with the air box but you then have the issue of noise. I stand to be corrected on this but i know they don't make any difference with bikes and you need to look at different manufactuers if you want increased air flow. If only Carlsberg made air filtetrs

Back in the days when i had road going two stroke bikes (men were men & sheep were worried) the easiest tuning mod was to fit K&N filters with an increase in the main jet to take advantage of the extra air flow through the engine the filters gave you. If you didn't check/change the jetting you ran the risk of putting a hole in a piston.
The increase was minimal but the filter(s) were reusable & that was probably the main benefit, you never had to replace them, just clean & re-oil every service interval.

No disrespect but why would one want to 'boost' the performance of what is basically a functional van totally unsuited for high speed?
Performance 'mods' are beneficial on cars and smaller vans - has anyone tried to stop a 'vito' when travelling at 100mph by braking hard? heh, heh....it don't wanna stop 'cause the factory brakes are bl**dy useless! Ever tried to take a sweeping curve at around 70mph? heh, heh.......it don't wanna turn 'cause the handling/suspension is cr*p!
Accept the fact that these vitos/vianno/**** are functional vehicles meant for transporting people and goods - want some excitment on the road, get yourself an Alfa/Saab/Impreza/Ferrari or the good ole Escort Mexico!

Those were the days when you could pop the top of your carb with out tools and lift your needles a notch. K&N went through some kind of legislation a few years back and since then there replacment filters havent flowed any more air than the standard oe filters. That said the cone ones flow a ton more air but then they arn't a replacment for the or filter

In answer to your question Punjabi, yes I have tried taking a sweeping curve at 70mph in my Vito and thanks to my Koni dampers and H&R lowering springs I came out the other side with nothing more than a huge smile on my face! You want to get yourself some decent suspension mate ;)

K&N filter installed in my van. Made no discernible difference at all I am afraid :(
My experiance with K&N filters on the bikes was far better than with foam type filters, which suffered in the wet soon getting saturated and blocked.
K&N filters are pleated so have a much higher surface area than paper or foam filters, this increase in surface area allows more particles to be filtered out before the filter media becomes blocked. A new or newly cleaned K&N should flow more air than a new paper filter but a 10 or 20 thousand mile K&N will flow far more air than a paper filter with the same use.
K&N say a Rover V8 will gain 4 to 20 bhp, that could be depending on state of tune, say between 3% and 10% more power.
The Vito has a better standard induction system than that of a 20 year old Rover, so I doubt you would notice a big gain.
That said after 6 months of use a K&N should flow more air than a paper filter and hence better economy and less black smoke, may even help get past the MOT test.

my 115 stops from 160kph fine, handles bends just fine too, the reason I bought it was the handling. Sure it aint a car, but adapt your driving style and you learn to deal with the weight and CG issues.

Punjabs me old mate, ever considered flogging your van, seems you really dont like it.

heh, heh...I luv the 'van' but only for the huge accommodation factor, it is like a mobile lounge - ideal for family outings, etc. When I crave for some REAL excitement on the road, out comes my SAAB which goes like a space shuttle!
