looking at two SEL's a 1974 which I belive bould be D jetronic injection

" D-Jetronic (1967–1976)Analog fuel injection. The 'D' is an abbreviation from German: "Druck", which means pressure. The depression (vacuum) is measured using a pressure sensor located in the intake manifold, in order to calculate the duration of the fuel injection pulses. Originally, this system was just called Jetronic, but the name D-Jetronic was later created as a retronym to distinguish it from the newer versions."

And a 1976 which i belive would be a K jettronic injection

"K-Jetronic (1973–1988)Mechanical fuel injection. The 'K' stands for German: "Kontinuierlich", meaning continuous. This is different from pulsed injection systems, in that the fuel flows continuously from all injectors, whilst the fuel pump pressurises the fuel up to approximately 5 bar (72.5 psi). The air that is taken in is also weighed - to determine the amount of fuel to inject. Commonly called 'Continuous Injection System' (CIS) in the USA. This system has no lambda loop or lambda control. K-Jetronic debuted in the 1973.5 Porsche 911T, and was later installed into a number of Porsche, Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Group, Ferrari, BMW, Volvo, Saab, Datsun and Ford automobiles."

so whats the story from the guys in the trenchesm the guys in the know, whats the way to go, what is the difference, is one better, less problematic, etc.

K Jet is way less temperamental than D Jet, and cheaper to maintain.

D Jet;
Trigger points $$$$
Injectors $$$$$$$
ECU $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
MPS $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Fuel Pump $$$$$
If you have a wife

K Jet;
Fuel Distributor $$$$$$$
See less See more
Go K-jet - less maintenance/hassles, no trigger points, and on V8's - tappets are hydro adjusted whereas d-jet V8 tappets require adjustment.

Can you tell from this vin if its a K or D jetronic, the cars a 1976, (which i belive was the change from D to K) but want to make sure as sometimes late production in 1975 could be called and sold as a 1976
heres the vin

VIN 11603312055950 I dont supose there is enough detail in the vins expecially back then to tell. Perhaps can tell a approx production date, that could help determine K or D
