I just purchased an 89 190e 2.6 w/ 145K on it. I paid $2400 and the current owner has had it for 12 years now. Well maintained and clean. I had it checked out and there are some odds and ends that need attention, but nothing like a needing a new transmission or anything.

Does anyone believe this was a good deal? New here, so feedback on what to look out for, tips, etc is helpful.

Good choice and a good price if rust free and running well.
The engine choice is one I wish I had made, and yet mine has been dependable (@ 185k mi.)

Welcome to the fold.

Yes - rust free, California car.

Things it needs immediately:
Serpentine Belt
Radiator Fan Clutch
Trans Cooler Lines replacement
New front tires

Things that can wait,
AC Conversion
Valve cover gaskets, Front cover gasket
Engine and trans mounts

It looks like it is in great condition, so deffinatly a good buy considering the problems are inexpensive and easy to fix (except the trans lines can get kinda expensive since I spent $116 on mine from the dealership).

More pictures - hope to get Euro headlights for it sooner or later.
Nice floor mats haha. Check around this site first before you try and buy from ebay for you headlights. I remember seeing someone selling an authentic pair of bosh euros around here with the adjust leveling system included for a very good price. Hopefully they arn't sold yet.

Nice car, I got mine for 1,600 with less miles but slightly worse condition body wise. Interior has a few broken and ripped pieces and one or two small rust spots on the body that are hard to find except the one by the antenna. Good find. Once you get euro headlights you'll be amazed at how much better the car looks with them. Welcome aboard.

Very nice car. I'm fixing my up to look as good as yours. it needs attention to the body pieces and time for me to get to it. Mine is the same color and body clad style.

Nice ride! Love those floor mats! Haha!

You have a wonderful base to start with. Once you make it your own with nice little tasteful mods you will be so in love with it. These cars are an addiction!

Check out that cup holder! Not a bad idea!

Looks beautiful.

Mine is the same color, trim and engine size but looks a little rougher on the outside and now has 188K. The 190E I have came from Detroit via a local German car specialty repair shop in Royal Oak, MI and was a second car for a man from Detroit who was one of the legendary Tuskegee Airman in WWII. (They were the best escort fighter service in the 15th Air Force and never lost a bomber to enemy planes.)

Legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen

This Benz has lots of soul and is a pleasure to drive. The car was cared for regarding the important things, like redoing the engine head a few years ago. It's the most enjoyable car I've ever owned. A friend of mine said the 2.6L and the 16 valve 4-cyl. were engineered in part by Lotus and are responsive to tuning. If anyone knows more about the tuning aspect, I'd love to know more. What specialty shops exist for Benz engines in North America for example.

It's a beautiful little car and I bet you end up loving the thing.
