Whats up everyone, my dad just handed over to me his Cream colour 560SL and i would like to do some things to it asap. First whats the maximum tire size i can go on it? As well as what are some basic mods i could do to increase 0-60 on it. It has 70,000 km on it ... currently i'm living in Toronto, Canada.

Thanks everyone,

Arabian Knights

You might wish to check following thread and do some searches, as for wheels/tire size your budget is the limit.

http://forums.mbnz.org/forums/R107/vthread.asp?messid=817

Tires and Wheels

I bought my wheels (18" AMG Monoblock replicas) from
Beckkers. I then bought 275/35ZR-18 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 for the rear and 235/40ZR-18 for the front. I did not have to roll the fender wells at all. You cannot put any bigger rubber on than these.

Get a rebuilt rearend from one of the many on-line "junkyard" dealers. I put a 3.23 in mine (wish I had put in a higher one...) Mine came with new clutch packs for the anti-slip...those big tires in the back sometimes chirp when turning a corner..I was impressed...

Good luck!!

Sounds pretty extreme for a W107...
What are the wheel-sizes and the offset (ET)?
Is the car lowered?
Do you have any pictures?

I also thought about changing the rear axis ratio on my 300SL, but to a lower one! With 3.46 it revs 4500 rpm at 150 km/h (93 mph). I thought about that a 3.26 or even 3.07 together with a 1st gear start modification. What´s the stock final ratio on the 560?

gear ratio

I think the stock one was 2.53.

the back wheels are 9X18....ah, just go to www.bekkers.com and look for the monoblock replica..I think they were about $230 each (American. I need to take some pictures....try this one!

Removing plugs

I thought if one or two is good; then three would really help. Unfortunately, I could not check times as the huge engine fire got my attention first![V]

No spacers.

you (if you haven't already) try

http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/

the guys over there seem a lot more knowledgeable.

Don't take what the guys at The TireRack say as gospel. I bought some rims from an MB Catalog and put on the recommended largest tires MB said to use for my 300CE. The TireRack guy said they would never work....idiot!
What do you think?

How on earth did you fit 9x18 ET48 on your car?

Did I understand you correct when I assume that you mounted 9x18 ET48 on the back? Yesterday I changed to winter tires on my 1989 SL. With the stock 7x15 ET25 I estimated that there is maximum 30mm inwards clearance for the back rims.

48 mm ofset instead of 25 puts the center of the wheel 23mm furter inwards. 2 inch wider rims gives means another 1 inch = 25 mm since the inner side of the rim is 1 inch further from the center of the rim. This means that relative the stock rims, your rims reaches 25 + 23 = 48mm further inwards!

Obviously your tires fit since you ahve mounted them, but I can not understand how becasue on my car 9" ET48 would for sure not be possible without spacers.
