Welcome to the forum.

Great.....and I thought traveling the world and playing poker was expensive...lol...this MB I bought seems very solid and unmolested...the question now is ....... do I restore it to original or do some custom things????

Any idea of how rare the Euro bumpers and headlights make it?

What ???? Custom things??? NO. Wash your mouth out with soap.

It really looks fine to me. Repaint it in original color if needed. Resore it to original specs , if needed.

The more you personalize a car, the less it is worth to someone else.

If you must, tinker with things that can be easily changed back to original, such as wheels and tires. A set of Ronals would look great on that car.

Do not go out and buy chrome wheel arches!

Of course, this is strictly my opinion. It's your car to screw up as you wish :crybaby2:

For a 280SL, they don't make it unique at all- that's the way the car was built for the world, EXCEPT the good ole USA that decided to slap on ugly battering ram bumpers and revert to 50 year old lighting standards.

Most R107s you will see driving around in USA are 450, 380 or 560SLs that were made for the US market and have the ugly things. I don't know the numbers, but I would suspect perhaps 5-10% of the R107 population left here is euro spec (280 or 500SL) with attractive bumpers and lights.

I am going to have a good detail done on her....have all the fluids, belts, hoses, and timing chain replaced.....and MAYBE buy some new SHOES for her .......Thanks....BW

Timing chain is a good investment with that kind of mileage. While the 2.8 I6 does not have the problem the V/8s do it probably is due.

The 280SLs are fun to drive and yours looks well cared for.

I have a set of those factory MB wheels (Known as Bundt's) with like new 205/70/14 tires for sale up here in Atlanta. Don't know if yours are 6 or 6 1/2 inches wide, but mine are the harder to find 6 1/2 inch wide rims.

If you start looking, you will quickly find (as most others here and elsewhere have) that the 14 inch tire is pretty much a dead market. Not many good choices out there anymore.

14x6.5 are the standard size for most 107's from '72-'85.
