so i finally gave in and since my hood had a lot of dent/chips from stones anyways i gave the 3M Di-Noc a shoot.

Looks amazing and installation is easy but takes time! this material is very forgiving...

planing to do the entire car in matte black with Hood, roof, trunk in carbon fibre.

That is a sweet setup, just with the hood and tailgate! How long did it take to do the hood?

Only drawback, just read the product description, sound like a 3 - 4 year outdoor lifespan.

I like the Hood and Tailgate in CF.
Maybe the roof also but I do not like the entire ML in CF.
I do like the contrast of the CF hood and Tailgate with the gloss black you have now.
If you stop now I think you have a winner.
I will reserve judgment of a flat black body when I see it.

The hood looks good, and the trunk is ok, but its definitely not for me. Especially doing the whole car. If it was me I would do the hood, roof and trunk and call it a day. Although it doesnt look bad, if you dig then run with it.

yeah well i believe that's the lower of the estimates i have seen. All depends on the UV it sees...its rated for 9 years indoors. And I am keeping it in a garage so it should be fine for a while. additionally i am protecting the paint underneath so rust or anything is not an issue. Peel it of and you are good togo.

hood took me about i wanna say 5-6 hours. However i only had another set of hands for the first 2. This job gets a lot easier with 2+ poeple.

2 guys stretch the other one hold the heat gun....i have never used Di-Noc an its a very steep learning curve. If i had todo it again i would say 3 hours.

roof and mirrors are the only other thing i wanna do in CF. (and maybe some interior stuff as well)

Wow that roof looks nice. Did you remove the roof rack to do it? My 55 is silver, Id love to do mine, did you do it in one piece or separate pieces? Was that 3m wrap?
yeah black roof looks nice on the silver!...

i used 3M Di-Noc which i can highly recommend...that stuff is really great to work with!

Nice job there, how dose it go when you have to clean road grime off it or is it smoother than it looks.I think i'm a paint and wood trim man though, but you've done it well.

If you do the outiside, you gotta go over the wood on the inside with it.

No that is an entirely different material. Not as easy to apply, not a forgiving material.
autopaintguard.com part # P2708H for the front pre cut kit. They also sell bulk material
if you wanted to do an entire hood.

I have never been a fan of the whole "blacked out" craze. I just didn't see the appeal and was prepared to dislike this as well. But I have to admit, that hood looks incredible! I would love to see an entire ML done up with this material.

Two thumbs up for innovation and style!

What happens when the di-noc is removed? Does it cause any damage to the real paint?
no it can be be peeled of in am matter of minutes. it leave no residue and actually protects the paint from the elements. check out youtube videos. people put it on bentley's, lambos, ferraris and alike....doubt they would all ruin their paint ;)

the quote i got from a company todo the entire car in matte black was 4k actually which is a lot but then again proper application does take time and patience.

Material isnt quite cheap either...a 60"x60" sheet of CF runs you about $125

i just bought 30'x5' roll of black matte for 300 that should at least be enough for all the doors and fenders.
