Virginia is essentially two different states. You have what is called Northern Va. which is 4 or 5 counties up around the DC + Maryland lines which generates all the money for the state and which is highly educated and then you have the rest of the state which fights any change tooth and nail. For whatever reason it works as we aren't crazy left wing like Maryland which may as well be a socialist country and we aren't crazy right wing like N. Carolina which is an evangelical hell with NASCAR. N. Carolina is like a hot chick that's crazy as a loon, really nice looking but a nightmare below the surface. Then again the Eastern Shore of Maryland is completely different than the more populated areas and is actually pretty cool and quaint.

Congrats on the new job and the move Mike. That's a nice part of the county.

I haven't been on the w126 forum much lately since I no longer have one but am glad I caught this post. Happy to hear you'll be taking the coupe.

Safe travels.

Statements like this are why I stay out of politics. it is highly inflammatory.

I moved to NC 2.5 yrs ago after living in NYC for nearly 9 years and CT for two decades prior to that. Some people down here like Nascar, some don't. Most prefer Football. Most down here are Christian, but it is no evangelical Hell, as you put it. In fact, this place is overflowing with exceedingly calm, nice and sweet people who are polite, respectful and go out of there way to help others.

You should learn from them.

I was born in New York City and raised in Southern California since I was 8, so I am pretty liberal, (very liberal!) and I have traveled the world and this country extensively and have learned not to lump everyone into neat little categories and I judge people by how they act and treat others and me. I have been in the southern states many times and have always found them to be the nicest, most caring and giving people I have ever met. Broke down in Texas once and had many people coming to our aid. Even just asking for directions in Mississippi yielded people willing to take you there... While I am not at all religious, there are MANY people here in my small town that are, so I am used to that, and I respect it like I would anyone's belief's.

So I am looking forward to meeting all sort of new people and seeing all sorts of new things and places. As far as where I will live, I am looking at houses on the rivers with riverfront and a dock. Thinking I may buy a sailboat and sail the Potomac. For what I have sunk into this coupe, I can have a pretty bitchen' sailboat. (pun intended!) LOTS of nice little communities with houses with docks and that sort of thing. Once I get there I will see what area's I like.

How much is a house with a dock? That would be $2.5 million here !
Yeah, no. I have found many in the 1600-2200 a mo. range. I'll rent to start and once I'm in the Pentagon, I'll buy a place closer.

I found a great 3 BDR 2 1/2 BA with 100 feet os shoreline and a 100 foot private dock for 2100 a mo. Only thing I didn't like was there was no garage and no paved driveway. I Keep looking.

The key will be finding the right house on the VA side close to Pax.
