My door locks quit, shutoff problems and hard shifting happened at the same time. I started checking for leaks, sent it off to a local MB guy who told me 250 to fix the door vacuum servo, 108 to fix the shutoff. Bad servo(door element). Replaced it from a pick & pull for $3 US. Car shuts off fine now. Shift no longer lurches. If you look at the lock mechanism, check the tiny boot that surrounds the lock. If its got a crack replace it, seems that 20 + years may affect this. And if your having shift or shutoff problems it may be as simple as the locks. Just my experience and passing it on...
Also if you're rockin' a Euro model, there's no difference in this part of the vac system...
