My W210 Wagon just got totalled. I am deciding between a 01-03 W210 Wagon 4matic vs an 04/05 W211 wagon.

How is the reliability of W211 from those years.

So far I have hear horror stories on that Servotronic brake system. But I did read that Mercedes recalled and fixed it. Is that still an issue after the fix? The engine and transmission is the same so there should be no big problems there.

Please list what are the common non DIY problems for the W211.

The 210 is less electronically complicated and more DIY friendly.

That being said now that I have a W211 in the 2005 flavor I would not want to go
to a W210. They are very nicely appointed and if well maintained can be very reliable.
There are always exceptions to that rule and a lot of members would say 2007 or later
is the way to go with W211s, but no wagons those years for the US.

I have a 2004 E320 4Matic wagon and have had not one problem (just hit 73,000 miles). I have heard problems with the brakes but that was more for those who worked on the car, not drove it. Mine is a basic model and I have found the versitility amazing. I can throw what I need into the car and go just about anywhere in it (with the dogs etc). As much as I love it, I am saving to try and buy a W212 wagon one of these days.
