were you cruising at a reasonable steady speed, or in stop-n-crawl ?

thats about 105C, which means your coolant is running about 220F, which is on the high side but not overheating.

Its around 103F here today at Socal and my temp is this high. Is this normal?
It must be that time of year again, here come the overheating threads.

It depends who you ask. No it's not normal on any other car unfortunately your radiator and cooling fan can't cope with your climate and keep the temp under 100c.

Assuming you have an OM606 diesel, that is hotter than normal, even in 103F ambients. The fan clutch is the most common failure, you are seeing 100C on the gauge in 100F ambients, and the fan doesn't roar when you rev to 3000rpm, the clutch is probably bad.

Search the forum, there are threads which have beat this topic to death.

And no, your engine won't blow up at the indicated temp (~105C). But it's better to fix it now rather than wait for the needle to start climbing higher.
