Hi all,

I posted here awhile back about some sec's and sel's. In the end I decided to hold off for a bit. I have just come across an '84 euro 500sec with:
- 55,000 original miles
- anthracite on black leather
- no rust etc. (always garage kept)
The owner is asking 9500. Is this fair, given the low miles, but despite the car's age ... ?

Thanks. (I have no pics to post, I'm afraid.)

Did you check mbcoupes Buyer's Guide

Have you tried a forum search? The archive has a wealth of information.

Please click 'User CP' on the top tool bar, and complete your profile with a location and model of your car.
It makes it easier for members to offer advice. MB produced different, and region / Country specific versions of our cars.

Welcome, to take advantage of all the forum features, please re visit the 'Welcome to the Forum' tutorial sticky on top of the W126 page, as well as the two DIY stickies.
It will show how to search the forum, and has a link to the Russian MB site where you can run a VIN#.
Cheers

Is it a good deal? Maybe. How extensive are the maintenance records? If there are no records, it may still be a great car, but then again...

Get a thorough PPI from a respected mechanic who's familiar with these cars. You might have a great car, even at $9500, but it might have several issues that stem from neglect, even with low miles. Many rubber bits would be brittle by now, and if it's sat in a garage for a good deal of its life, some of the internal fluids could have deteriorated. There are several things that could be hidden $2000-3000 fixes, and then you're into the car for 12 grand or so. In today's market, there are many 126s, and I would say that only a few of them are currently "worth" more than 6-7000. You could certainly be looking at one of them, but do your homework on it first.

You can check out a few things on it with a VIN check through the Russian MB site. If it's got the ECE/RUF (high output) engine, you could be really onto something.

I hope it's a good one, for your sake-- best of luck with it!

I personally could care less for the age of these 126's. If the car has pretty good maintenance records then that's a pretty good price for that type of car.

Good luck with it.
