Iam 24 year old single guy who just graduated and bought a 96 s320. The car is beautiful, but iam really getting sick of people saying stuff like 'iam too young for a car like this' or 'ure wasting ure money' or 'is this ure dad's car?' Is there anyone like me who drives a machine like this?

You are not alone. My first car was a Mercedes when I was 18! It was a 1976 280 S. Then I bought another Mercedes, a 1983 380 SEL when I was 20. Its true, there aren't many young dudes like us that drive an S-Class. The deal is that most people are jealous. The other deal is that most people stereotype young guys as driving 'rice' or in other words driving Hondas or Toyotas. The Mercedes S-Class is the only car with balls. A 'no holds barred, no apologies' machine. And what can I say- It is a ladies magnet.
I agree 4 door monster!
it would not hurt to get a rice car on the side like an RX7 (hehehe i got one) just in case the girl is little shallow.
Of course I am married so my rotary has been in the garage for the last 10 years (sniff sniff) where I drive it only around the house within the confines of my property. I guess she wants to amke sure I don't go for the yougens out in town.
Anyway, driving an S class does attarck another crowd. so for your age you might end up with some 'women' that might teach you a thing or two. So keep the car and don't listen to the young 'dudes' that have no idea what a V8 feels like when the AC is blowing cold at it's lowest setting and that the world rolls under you and turns as I turn. And by the way, the rear seats are a great place to get to know someone. Just hit the reclining button.
Nice car, young age.

I just turned 16 and I got a 94' E 320 sportline in perfect condition, and all i get half the time is aren't you too young to have a car like that or stares. But who cares, i love the car and I couldn't be happier, though yes it was bought by my father as a birthday gift, i got this for the fact it is a good car that will hold up and is built with great quality, not for the symbol on the front of the car.
Those are the same guys that would laugh at you if your Ford Tempo was broken at the side of the road. Enjoy your S-Class, and all that comes with it.(women included). :)
At this age it is like having a woman GPS system.
To each his own...

...is what I say. There are many people who are jealous, or just feel its 'out of place', and feel the need to say something. Some are worse than others - a few people in the SLK forums have had people scream and yell at them - cursing them out! There isn't much you can do besides grinning and bearing it. Nothings stopping them from buying a benz themselves, they just don't care about it enough to own one.

I don't drive a benz myself (yet), but I will probably inherit my father's 84 300SD until I get enough money for the SLK. (I'm 19.)

I have the same problem w/ my silver 98 s320. I'm 16 and I've received a lot of flak about my car. Just laugh it off...at the end of the day, you still have a superior car in your garage.

BTW it's great for picking up girls [women in your case] :)
Another young S-class driver

Yes I am young and drive an S-Class. After I got my liscence I started searching for my first car. I came across an ad for a 1975 450SEL. I called up the owner and asked a few details. When I told her I was only a highschool student she immediately told me "this isn't a sportscar". I was well aware of that. I am not like normal teenagers who are obsessed with tweaking honda civics, and going for what is popular. Now the 450SEL wasn't too impressive with some rust etc.. But I wanted it. It was large, a light 1970's green, and had sluggish acceleration. But it looked as if it was mature, and was for individualists.

Sadly my dad wouldn't let me get the car. However I lucked out, and now drive the beautiful 560SEL flagship. However it is not mine. Yes it belongs to my parents, but most people don't need to know that. The 560SEL has a dark, antisocial and very mature look to it, and plus I feel far superior to those BMW drivers. I occasionally drove it to school, and had comments from teachers, including my Physics teacher who thought it wasn't fair that I drive such a nice and large car. And it was nice, as I left the school on a very hot day. I was in the sealed off in the airconditioned and silent cabin, with the automatic climate control keeping the car a perfect 19C. This was all while other students and teachers were driving their small little hondas, and baking in the heat. I also never once parked the 560SEL in the student lot, being with those inferior cars. I parked it twice in the teacer's lot, but then feared having a jealous teacher, ordering my car to be towed.

This picture is of the 560SEL in the teacher's lot, on a sunday.

I couldn't load it!%$#@!

I stupidly forgot that I can only load gif or jpeg files only! My file I was trying to load was a bmp off my scanner. Right now I'm working on swithching it to a gif or jpeg. Be patient, its coming.

Re: Another young S-class driver

You are exactly like me, w126fahrer! I got my first car during my senior year at High School. While everybody else were scampering around in 'rice' cars, I busted through the gates with a classic 1976 280 S![ same w116 body of that 1975 450 SEL you wanted ]
And yes I got criticised like crazy for it. Even before I got the car I would look in Auto Traders all the time in class for an MB. One student saw me looking in an Auto Trader in one of my classes and said, "Why do you want a Mercedes!?" He took the book out of my hands and showed me this crappy ass Mitsubishi. "Now thats the car you should get, that's a fast ass car!" I just looked at him, smiled and said, "I'll walk away in an accident in a Mercedes, but you won't while your sporty little 'rice' car is mangeled to pieces.-HA HA HA!" You know it had to be said. Anyways, I grew up with Mercedes cars and have always wanted one since I was a kid. They have a nastolgic value to me. I ended up selling my w116 280 S and saved up enough money to buy a w126 380 SEL. I plan to buy a w140 next, then I will have driven 30 years of S-Class body styles and complete the trilogy! The S-Class[ S=SUPER SIZED ] has always been the one and only 'real' Mercedes-Benz period. You can see a small picture of my current 1983 380 SEL in the far left corner, but I have a nice large pick of my classic 1976 280 S I used to own right here.

YES, someone like me!

Wow, someone who shares my joy with Mercedes. I've had similar comments. Why do you want a Mercedes? BMWs are better. They're such an old person's car. But that's what I want. I like the mature, and conservative German look. My brother is one of those wanting a Mini. Yuck. But I like the space and comfort. I don't want a cute car. What I like about the W126 is it has been decribed as Anti-social. I like yours, with the dark coloured paint job. (I can't tell from the picture). I'm not one to go with what is popular. Even with my music. I don't expect other people to like my tastes, becuase they are my tastes. I don't want to conform! But I'm glad to see some mature young driver like myself. Have you read the Catcher in the Rye? The world is full of so many phoney people. And what about the ducks?
Thats the point

People here in the states, bother me many times just by saying that "hey, thats a nazi mobile" or why not bought an american made car, as times are tough for the economy. Well, i buy what i like. I buy American products, iam American, i love America. But when it comes down to automobiles, Detroit has to increase its standard.
Re: YES, someone like me!

People that say Mercedes is an old person's car are absolute idiots! I'll tell ya what an old person's car is... THOSE DAMN CADILLACS!! Now a Cadillac IS an old person's car, not an MB. Thanx for the comment on my car, it is black by the way. I've put a custom exhaust job on it, it makes the V8 sound awesome! My car has some attitude! Your 560 SEL kicks some @ss too. It looks in really good condition
and you got that 5.6 V8 that out muscles my 3.8 V8!
Stuff about the w126 being anti-social is such trash. How can a car that has been made for more than a decade [ 1979-1991 ] be anti-social?

An old person's car

Yes, Cadillacs are an old persons car, but what about Buick? Have yo ever driven one of those horrible cars? I sometimes have to drive my Grandfather's 1994 Buick Lesabre, and it is absolutley a horrible car to drive. It handles like a boat, feels very unconnected from the road, and has plastic faux (FAKE) wood trim.

I wasn't very happy, when I picked up one of my friends, and he told me I was driving such an old person's car. Well I don't take his opinion seriously, as his ideal car is a BMW Z3[xx(]

Yes your car does have attitude, and looks imtimidating in a rear view mirror. Thanks for your comments about the 560SEL, and I am familiar with how powerful the 5.6L V8 is.[:D].

And to ///S320 I don't think I have ever heard some one call a Mercedes, a "Nazi-mobile". I laugh every time I read that. What I really dislike, are people's opinions about Germany. Though I am Canadian, I did live in Germany for four years, and came to love the country, and the cars they produce. It really shows someone's immaturity and lack of knowledge when all they can think about Germany is just Nazis.

You'll be surprised

You'll be surprised, but i do hear people say that to me sometimes. I agree its immaturity. But, if i put all the compliments vs. criticism, i get more compliments. And off course, i dont really care what people say, i drive a powerful, well engineered vehicle. It gets the highest royalty, where ever i go.

These were just the few things i come accross sometimes, that i shared with you guys. My S-Class, is perhaps the best purchase i ever made.

Greetingz,
