I know it may sound stupid but are they the same thing? Or are they two different things that hold fluid? Thanks in advance

They are different fluids. Its in the manual, also I do not think the transfer case fluid is lifetime.

I recently changed my tranny and transfer case oils, the partsman at my local Mercedes dealership confirmed to me that they both used the same atf fluid.

MB have recently changed their stance on the 'supposed' lifetime atf for the transmission.........It is now on a service schedule to change it every 60k miles..

Further to the above question,
The transmission and the transfer case are two separate components, each containing their own separate quantities of oil.
