Why?

I have both cars (95 911 and 01 55) and they are completely different cars (55 is torquey, 911 is smooth). Each is fast in its own way no matter what the numbers say. I would think my 55 is faster than my normally aspirated 911, but then when I count the 911 out and put the hammer down the 911 always suprises me.

I agree with James -- very different cars.
My are 99 996 and 01 CLK55.
The Porsche is much faster 0-60 and from 120 - 175. The CLK55 is faster from 70-120 (it's all torque once you get the weight moving).
CLK55 handles well for a coupe but nowhere even close to the 996.

Question for James.

I am driving myself and everyone around me nuts because I can't decide whether to bite the bullit and go for the 55.

Since you own one I wanted to know if it makes a good daily driver, nothing too quirky and yet gobs of power, torque and handling on tap?

I don't drive a great distance and my average annual mileage is around 6000 miles so I won't be racking the mileage up and in winter conditions I have a Grand cherokee as back up.

also, what colour combo is yours?

Daily Driver

I think it is a great daily driver. My driving options/scenario sounds exactly like your situation and I really love getting in the 55 to 'commute' or just take weekend trips. I generally drie my 911 only when its sunny (its a cabriolet) or for a change of pace. Also, the automatic in the 55 is great when dealing with any kind of commute or city traffic. I got black/charcoal (I didn't know the car came in any other color:))
