Is the rear diff. housing an acceptable point at which to jack up the rear end? I did a search and most prior posts on the topic indicate that jacking at the diff os OK - but there is one that says that it's not. Would the expert benzologists please chime in?

yes, it is shown on a factory manual as a jacking point.

Perfect for doing all rear end work.

Thanks Talbir - I'll be doing fuel accumulator and filter this weekend. Next weekend I'll be following your DIY for the suspension/nitrogen/accumulator replacement. :)

BTW - love the newest addition to your ever swelling "stable." It's very apropriate that you finally got a red blooded Italian "prancing horse" to house in it.
