I have some left over Mobil-1 0W-40 from last oil change, which almost 1 year old. The bottle is never opened... is it OK to mix with the new Mobil-1 I'll be getting for my next week oil change? or should I just toss it?

BTW, where can I get Mobil-1 0W-40 in Los Angeles area? My local dealers stop selling retail oil now (they sell ONLY in barrel!) and the local car shop like PepBoy doesn't carry this weigh. Any idea?

It's 60 million years old already, what's another year?

Just kidding.... [:D] As long as the bottle is sealed there should be no problem, all Mobile 1 is compatable.
Even if you have a bottle with a broken seal, as long as you know for a fact that nothing has been added, the oil will still be OK. [;)]

Like Bruce side you will be OK. There have been no changes to the Mobile 1 0w-40 in the last year. At least none I am aware of. You should be able to purchase it at pepboys or autozone.

Mobil 1 0-40 Update

Mobil 1 removed the "European Car Formula" from the label and changed the bottle design for the entire Mobil 1 line. The product simply states 0-40...
The routine oil service typically leaves about a 1/4 bottle of oil left over. My mechanic says it's good so long as the bottle is sealed. He said there's more problems with introducing grit and dust from an improperly stored bottle when pouring oil without wiping down the bottle.
BTW - a national autoparts chain store "Kr...." is selling Mobil 1 oil at $3.99qt through 5/31.

Thanks guys [:)] I like Bruce's joke.
Just check the "Kr.." site and they have it listed for 4.99. I'll check the store to see if there's price different.

im just gonna tag on here real quick

what weight oil is good for the 2.3L?

I am thinking about using the Mobil 1's Extended Performance oil...15,000miles. I'll do mine every 10k with Benz filter so that would be 3 times a year rather than 12 times [:D]

When Mobil 1 first came out, it was stated on the bottle that it was good for 25,000 miles....

I don't know what they have changed, but I would be willing to bet that it's life is well in excess of it's rating.
430 did at least one oil sample test on his '32 after 5,000 miles, and I believe the readings showed that the oil was still in excellent shape, and could go at least twice as long.
Generally we change oil far more often then is really necessary, but oil is cheap engines aren't... [:D] [)]
For a 230K I used 15-W50 in the Summer and 10-W30 in the Winter. I like to use a heavier oil, I feel safer with it.....

The oil test I did perform on Mobile 1 did show plenty of life left. Although to be fair the viscosity was not tested. But all the wear agents were well in the green zone and there was not excessive contamination. June/July time frame I will do another oil test.
