I know that it is a PITA with W124 to replace the knob. What about W210?

Thanks!

Takes maybe 45 seconds and the only tool you need is your hand.

Grasp the plastic tapered base of the knob and unscrew it roughly 100 degrees, it will pop free. Then twist the knob a bit to break it loose and lift it off. Useful to hold your other hand above it palm down it case it pops suddenly loose.

Replacement comes with a new tapered base, drop it on and hold it down while locking the base on it.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Thanks Greg, will give it a try; actually to put a leather boot to prevent liquid spill on the shifter.

Hey, Tex. I'm trying to picture that and I can't see it attractively in my head. If you don't mind taking and posting a couple of pics after that would be great.

^^^ Thanks for the link, I just bought it out from under you.

Just kidding.

His ad just says 124 and C class, did he tell you in email that it would fit the 210? You said the 124 was a pain, on that car he says it's ten minutes. ;)

Just a couple thoughts. Be sure you have a solid understanding of the return policy and argue in advance for a shipping refund for at least one direction if his representation is false. Also, find out how it mounts. If it locks down and you get stuck in park you'll have to figure out how to get around it quickly so you can get to the release portal.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

w210 shift knob

I know this is going to make me sound like a rookie, but I haven't found an OEM replacement shift knob. I can find lots of aftermarket stuff but I'd really rather have the stock item. Hate to get it from dealership but may have to.

Suggestions? Thanks.

The seller advertises with "Any special orders are welcome (any model, any car for no extra cost) made by a leather specialist with only the finest and best quality leather. Please contact us!". Thusly if I order then exactly for my application.

Regarding installation they said I needed to remove the knob, therefore my question starting this thread. Nothing is said about return policy so I am going to think it over now :)

I contacted the seller few days ago and he said that boot (this is only boot he is selling) will not fit on the car that doesn't have a base for it. As I mentioned in another topic -even if you fit the boot on, you will loose visual on gear selector.
My fear of getting coffee spilled all over the shifter might be the compelling factor, but on second thought I gonna let it be.

Make it 15 seconds if you leave the beer before entering the car.
No liquids, including beer, near the shifter. I was saying 45 seconds because tex hadn't done it before.

I can do mine in about 15 seconds while going through the toll plaza, changing lanes and sending a text message and reading the GPS.

I bought an all-wood one from a 163 that matches my interior and looks great. So Jeffrey, watch ebay and CL, used they are fine unless damaged.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
