I am thinking about it ... would it be too crazy? Has anyone done this before? How's the ride?

20" would look good with the right style wheels but they are very impractical for the R129. I have 19" and there is not enough tire to protect the rim from potholes when running a stock overall diameter. The 20" tire keeping stock diameter would be another 1/2" less sidewall at the road...I see lots of bent rims in your future. As far as ride goes, tell us what you have now (16,17, or 18) and one of us could give you reasonable idea of the change in ride.

I have 18 AMG now and would like the black rims (with polish lips) but none of the 19" seems to meet my specs (in term of offset and style). I want the 'traditional' 5-spoke wheels.

If I run 19" on 245/35 front then it will rub a bit (because 245/40/18 already rubs). 245/35/19 will be around 0.9mm higher than 245/40/18 thus will rub more.

If I run 235/30/20 front (and 285/25/20 rear), it will be around 3mm shorter compared to 245/40/18 and that should take care of the rubbing issue.

The problem is, will I just be 'running on rims' then (for the 20" rims)?

Going from 18" to 20" with those tire sizes will make the ride noticably more harsh (but probably not a huge difference). You will have to be very careful to drive only on good roads with that setup.

stock oem for 17" would be 245/45/17 so yours is a bit smaller. I don't think that you will have problems with rubbing unless you use the wheels not designed for the R129. Before people can help, you need to specify the specs of your wheels like the types, offsets, how much are the lips etc.

Did you drop the car to get rid of the wheel arch gap? If so, how much drop is that?

I just mounted 19" Brabus Monoblock VI yesterday on mine. Would like to know what to do to get rid of the gap.

By the way, my setup is 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear and no rubbing issue.

The only complaint I have is a loss of Acceleration. Im going to mount 17 inch amg flat monoblocks for running in the summer with the hard top. But when Its time for top down cruising I may put the 20s back on. JJ

Sorry I replied on the other thread before noticing this one - "Loss of Acceleration", what exactly do you mean by that? How is that possible..? Issues with ASR/ABS..? You don't have ESP do you..? :-O :-o

bigger wheels --> heavier especially on spinnings. I like the 19" more but hard to find ones fitting R129.

Help

New to the site, barely understand what's being said here. I would like to find
19" 5 spokes(AMG style) with the chrome lip. Assuming the wider the tire the better (bigger chrome lip), would that be 19/8.5 for the front and 19/10 for the rear?

Do I have to go to actual AMG or is there replica stuff that's just as good? Is there a big quality difference? How about price? from what I can tell the real ones are about $1,000 each and I cannot even find a site that says 19" will fit.
If anyone could recommend a site I would appreciate it. The tirerack has the AMG's, but their about $1K each.

What I don't understand is the whole "offset" and "staggered" terminology. I have heard the 5/112 reference which is the bolt pattern, but the other stuff escapes me. I will probably buy online (live in Canada and it is waay cheaper in the U.S. even with duty & taxes from what I can tell). I just don't want to buy something that does not fit.

Sorry for being longwinded and sorry if this stuff is really obvious. Thanks in advance for any help you can give
