Hey all,

Took a look at a 2001 SL that's for sale. Under the hood, right behind the grill, I noticed that the two fans were missing.

My car has them. Do all cars have them?

Those (those which are not there) would be the auxiliary fans for the AC condensor coil.

Is it possible that your car does not have AC (the AC option code is 580 or 581a)--this would be very rare on a 129.

That is a possibility. The fans are $367.20 a pop from MB of Atlanta; though aftermarket they can be had for $120 to $150 each...

I would leave it right where it sits. Thats a hellva indication that proper maintenance was not utilized. NO TELLING what other hidden gremlins are lurking...:dance::dance::dance: :|

Some early euro 300s models don't have them but I've never seen any late model without them ,I'd walk away :grin

Every 129 sold in the US had a/c Something very weird about that

It is also missing plastic parts next to headlights. Just leave it alone unless the price is extremely cheap. AC pipes are in the picture, so there is definetely something wrong.

Looks like the condensers there so it has A/C. I would leave it alone

I appreciate all the feedback, thanks. I figured it had to do with the AC but wasn't sure what exactly.

Will the AC work without them?

I tested it out, and the air blows, does not blow cold. Nor do the damper settings work all that well. Comes out the front vents.

On all my Benz's the front fans come on with A/c on and if engine temp go's above 105F,you can still drive the car,but make sure its a cold cold day!
Maybe they were just trying to lighten their car like MM?:devil:devil

Likely front end damage and incomplete repair. Steer clear of that critter.
