Old battery packed up. I found stores here selling batteries they recommend as suitable for the 380.These had CCA ratings from 640 to 820. All >$200AUD.
I found this Federal for less. Made in the USA!!. Any good in the long run?
Is 900CCA too much for a 380?, can it harm the electrical system in any way?

The battery will only discharge as many amps as the starter will draw when cranking.
The higher the CCA ( cold cranking amps ) and AH ( amp hours ) of the battery, the longer it should technically last without being charged by the alternator.

It should just last longer. It is the voltage rating you should not exceed. The electrical system will just have a larger pool of amps to use. I always say the more the better.

Back when i used to manage a parts store for Advance Auto Parts i found a strong correlation between battery output and longevity. The batteries capable of outputting more cranking amperage or CA have more plates, but thinner. This results in a battery great for cold climate useage. In sunny and hot South FLA this results in more battery warrenties. The batteries were sold on a tiered system, 1, 2, and 3 year free replacement batteries. The said batteries also had more CA or CCA depending on their warranties. The 3 year warranty batteries always came back before the 2 year batteries. The 1 year failed usually just outside of the 1 year mark. Granted these all had prorated warrenties but case in point around the Boca Raton area populated with rich snobs and old blue hairs driving Toyota Camry's one of the most common batteries sold was a 24F. Used to sell 2 pallets of these a week. On average i would get about 7-10 of the 3 years back a week for warrenty, vs 3-5 of the 2 years.

The interstate 93 group size in my 3 w126's have 850cca. I still replace mine at the 2 year mark :)

No it may last shorter! To pack the extra capacity into the same sized box they have to space the plates closer and make them thinner. Less stable, easier to short out with a sulphate bridge.

I dont know the grouping system used there in the USA. This battery is 900CCA 100Ah.
I also thought the more the better, but was afraid of frying the electrics.
I did get a 2year warranty with this battery. I'm not sure about the number of plates in it, but it is longer than the old battery.
