Hi all i have started the search for another sl to compliment my 129. I have been looking around since im not in a hurry and have found some facelifted sl600s and 65s and was wondering how much better they are then the 04 to 08 ones? I know all sl will have the typical problems but was there anything that really stood out between the 2? Also are there any rare options i should look for besides pano? I feel that it is time to step up to a v12 kinda a why not thing. Now it comes down to pre or post lift and 600 vs 65. Decisions decisions

they updated the command/ marginally better than the older one. I think all the 65s have the 07 up improved suspension components but probibly the 600s have the non sport parts. I would go with a AMG if you want more updated systems. Im not a big v12 fan, if you want latest upgrades Id go for the 63.

I thought about the 63 but my uncles e63 kinda ruined me on those. He broke the transmission 4 times in the first 3000 miles. Its pretty bad when you need 2 whole new ttransmission before the first oil change. Mb ended up eating it as a lemon when it started knocking. He ended up with a s600 and is much happier. I know the transmission in the 600 and 65 is just a newer on then my 129 and its been solid.

The main reason why they would be better, is simply because they are newer, and elements have had less time to rot them away...

But underneath, for the most part, R230 is R230, very similar, while some accessories are updated, upgraded, and made simpler and better, but its not a night and day difference in performance or quality...

Compared to the 129, 129 is much better built car, when new... (put 100 circle around WHEN NEW), but whe we consider the newest 129 is 15 years old now, even the best quality build will give up to age... not to mention the design itself being outdated compared to the 230...

Buy the cleanest newest most spoiled car you can find, and your money can buy... mostly buy the one you like its look the most...
