I am coming up to my build date for a 55 and I want to make sure I understand my options. I want to retrofit the Ipod cradle when it's available, do I need to do anything now or will this be a relatively easy dealer install later with all SLK's with command?
My other concern is about the phone option. I was not interested in the MB phone and contract but I love the integrated phone idea. Is it possible to add the option and then retrofit in another phone? If so how much trouble would it be???? Thanks,,Brad

Hi - on the Euro version with COMAND it is worth ordering the phone pre-wiring installation. Then you can get a cradle for a range of mobile phones, which just plugs in to the top compartment of the centre armrest. My phone is a Sony T630 and works brilliantly through the COMAND system. The range of cradles is a bit limited though.

I also have the cradle phone. I use a Nokia 6210i which works just fine.

You do need to speak a bit loud tho', as the Microphone is not that good at picking up your voice... Also, I'm not quite sure where exactly it is, seems like it might be in the cabin light housing.

No, on the 350 all you need to have is COMAND in order to get the Ipod Integration Kit from MB when it is available (I think the last I heard this will be April or May?). But COMAND is required for the Ipod integration on the SLK but not on some other MB models.

Hi Coit, you just remove a little triangular moulding from the 'hidden'pocket in the centre armrest lid and slide in the phone cradle. The choice of cradles IS very limited, but once it's in, I've found it works superbly. The only disconcerting feature is that there is some strange noise limitation circuitry built into it. When you (the car driver) are not speaking, tx on the phone is cut off (totally). The recipient of your phone call thinks you have cut thm off/gone in a dodgy area or not paid your bill!!!

Once you (or your callee has) got used to this quirk, you will find it's possibly one of the best 'hands free' you will come across - even with the lid down.

Thanks all, I feel good about the Ipod issue. Are there any readers in the US with knowledge about the phone options?
I appreciate the information from Europe but I am concerned our options might be different. My dealer is not much help..Brad

I have been looking into doing the phone thing through my dealer. I ordered the SLK with every option except the phone mainly because the I had the v60, 5 years ago. Now MB is actually getting with the times and offering the v710. Well, not offering it yet, but soon, maybe. Anyways, Dealer quoted me $2500 for the phone and all the internal crap to make it work including installation. Then $500 more if I wanted to add voice control.

I found this online.

and his site also has other really good info, most I have not had time to read just yet.
