Hi all,

I finally picked up a W124, a 1994 E420 w/ 138k on the clock. I'm the third owner, 136k miles, always garaged, full maintenance records, $4200. Hope I did well!

Anyway, I have a question about it. I want to replace the fluids (power steering/motor oil/coolant/ATF+filter/rear diff), and I would like to know what fluids to use. In my BMW, I use Redline 75W90 gear oil for the (limited-slip) rear diff, Redline MTL in the Getrag 265 manual transmission, Valvoline ATF for the power steering pump and BMW brand coolant for the coolant. Are these aftermarket fluids good for the Benz as well, or should I stick to MB brand gear oil/ATF/PS fluid/coolant/etc? Also, for motor oil, would Amsoil 20W50 work well for warmer weather?

Yes and Yes to your questions. You have a manual 420?
Yes, I should use MB fluids, or yes, the aftermarket stuff I listed is fine?

My E420 is an automatic, but it's probably one of the best automatics of its era--no implosion after 140k miles like a ZF/GM unit in a BMW!

Also, I was reading my owner's manual, and it says something about using hypoid gear oil. Does this mean I can't use an aftermarket gear oil?
