Hi Wallie,

I'm new here, too. Nobody cares if your English isn't perfect. My Dutch is far worse I'm sure.

I remember driving in the pouring rain from Amsterdam to Eindhoven around 1991 in a rented VW Golf. The M-Bs flew by on the right and left.

Pix of my ride are in the W124 Gallery.

Cheers!
Dave

Your car looks great the way it is. [;)]

FAT

Regarding your idea for the grille, I think keeping the original stuff is great way to go. I still have my OEM wheels, springs, and shocks, so I can always go back to the original configuration. Of course I will also keep my original swaybars when I get the Limo front bar and E500 rear bar installed in a couple of weeks.

Having 18 wheels for summer and 17 wheels for winter sounds very cool indeed.

Those 18 wheels look pretty big. What are the rest of the dimensions of the wheels, i.e., width and offset? Do you have any issues with rubbing?

I am a little jealous, because I love big fat tires and I just can’t seem to fit anything bigger on my car. My 16 AMG wheels are 16 x 7.5 ET37 and I would not be able to fit 225/50/16 tires without rubbing, even though they are the same overall diameter as my 205/55/16 tires. I also can’t run 215/55/16, because they are a little taller and would rub on my car. I have read that plenty of people run 215/45/17 tires on 17 x 7.5 ET35 wheels, but it sounds like many have problems with the 225 width unless the offset is higher.

I am still a little hopeful that I may be able to adjust my front caster to get a little more clearance. I may also get the AMG spacer kit, so that someday I can install the 225/50/16 tires. I just think they would look so FAT and cool. I also think the increased volume of air in the bigger tires would add some comfort to the ride and of course the bigger contact patch should give me great traction.

I would love to visit the Netherlands. So far I have only been to France, Italy, and Monaco. That was back in 1988, before all of the conflict. Hopefully someday I will take another trip out of the USA, as long as everyone doesn’t hate us and I don’t think someone will try to kill me. [:(]

hi

i saw a w124 serie with 19 inch rims here in
Holland i cant figure why you cant put 18 inch on your car, it seems no problem to me.
i had 15 /16 17/18 inch for my car and it never went wrong
the 18 inch on the picture are the 8-hole
from Melber or Intra i dont know for sure
its 5x112(all mercedes) with et 35
when you buy rims from a bigger size watch the ET value from the wheels
is between de 30 and 40 i always go for 35
but my new Brabus monoblock 2 has et 30
(see picture)
