Can anyone shed any light as to why my 108cdi displays all the traits of a vehicle with a spud up it's exhaust. half the time it's perfectly ok but at times it will only rev up to 3000 revs. My mechanic thinks it is an electrical fault and has so far charged me £50 just for that information, before I take it to an auto electrics specialist I'd like to know if anyone has a similar complaint and how to rectify

It is going into safe mode sometimes, this is reset when you stop and restart the engine. I will put money on the fact that it is not an electrical fault and is either vacume related or turbo overboosting occasionaly. Mine did it after i fiddled with the turbo boost actuator rod and made it too long but there can be other reasons. Search the site about safe mode.
what makes him think its elecrical?

by bipassing a switch located above the clutch pedal he found that the engine will rev fully but the switch is now removed and I still have the same problem, he thinks the switch is faulty but I'm not convinced

That would be the switch that limits the revs to 3000 when you are in neutral with out the clutch being depressed, its meant to do that, i have also heard that a missadjusted brake light switch can limit revs aswell

Hi hoppy51,

I had a problem with my Vito going into safe mode, it turned out to be a dodgy gear linkage. I think Walsi might be right when he doubts it's electrical.
