It's a wonder I got past my recent annual road worthy check.
I noticed this whilst the mechnaic was taking it out for a brake test.

Last night I checked it against a reflective surface.

Seems the lights come on if you hold the shift in a certain spot and then come off if you dont. Flakey contact.
the car does have after market reversing sensors and I thgouht they were dodgy when the beep would come on and off even if I wasnt near anything.
Possibly someones been fiddling around with the switch etc.

Need some advice on....
i) possbile causes other than the selectro switch contact....
ii) how to get to it....top entry or bottom entry job.

had a play last night - it seems the reversing light doesnt come on when the shift is correctly in R.....
So I checked coming in from P and N.
Nothing coming in from P, but definitiely a spot between N and R where it engages - but this is before the tranny recognises the shift is in R and after it registers being in N...somewhere in no mans land.

I'm thinking - I saw a thread some time ago about repairing the selector plate. this might give me some picks for i) access and ii) parts assembly - might have to go searching.
