Hi,

I have a 2003 E500 with a retrofit Command system (so I could get the iPod/Aux in which was installed perhaps a year ago.)

Everything was working great until this AM.

Now, every so often - between 10 seconds and 2 minutes - the audio suddenly cuts out and then returns. This happens in all modes
- car running or not
- CD, Radio, Aux

Just before it cuts out there is typically what sounds like a static discharge then it is quiet for a few seconds and then returns.

In the lower right of the display you see the signal strength meter flicker or disappear when this happens. However, the primary screen for the unit remains lit and does not flicker.

It also appears to be power rather than amplification. I say this because when playing a CD and this happens the CD resumes in the same spot as if it was paused.

I've done a lot of searching and haven't found anything that is a perfect fit although the two leading candidates would be something on the optical ring failing or a fuse.

The only other thing of note is that a few days ago I got one of those "electrical consumers shut off" messages in the dash. My take on that is that the battery wasn't being charged properly during the holidays since we were taking very short trips. However, the car has been driven since then, the warning is gone and all was well till this AM.

Any other leads appreciated.

Best,

Phil

Not a fuse...if it were it would open & that would be it.

Do you have an iPhone or something you could use to video the HU's behavior t
& post it?

From your description it sounds like a bad/loose connection someplace. Did you do the swap work yourself or did a shop do it for you?

Seems Fixed.

As was suggested above it was not a fuse. I checked all the ones I thought were relevant.

I had also read that some people had good luck cutting power for a time so I thought I'd be clever and just pull all the fuses I thought might apply - I think I pulled 5 fuses in total including the gateway. That did not work.

What did work was disconnecting the battery for about 25 minutes and then reconnecting it. After that everything seems fine and I only had to reset the clock and the ESP.

How did you avoid the sunroof and windows loosing sync?

Hopefully the issue won't come back but if it does, I would keep track of the fuses pulled out, it would help if you could identify the exact device that created the issue (unless you have the car diagnosed).
