Removal and Installation ::

1) Turn latches (arrows) on recirculating air filter housing in passenger foot well 90° counterclockwise (open). To close during Installation, turn 90° clockwise.
2) Remove cover with recirculating air filter (2) towards bottom.
3) Open recirculating air housing.
4) Remove recirculating air filter.

NOTE : The recirculating air filter cannot be cleaned, it always must be replaced.

5) Installation is in the reverse sequence

Finally did this, the removal of the filter is a bit different on my car, 97 S420. there wasn't any latches to be turned, instead you had to stick a screw driver in a 2 slots and pry the cover loose. not too difficult but took some time to figure out. thanks again

RE: interior cabin filter removal...97 S500.

I was too ham-fisted to figure out about the slots for the screw driver when I couldn't find the latches to turn. Hence I managed to break off the rear clips that the housing hinges on.

They seem to have been molded into a larger, very hard to replace (and surely expensive) piece. Any suggestions on how to repair?

Thanks - Marks Towles

RE: interior cabin filter removal... item 2)

pcmaher,
Thanks for the pics and instructions. Several weeks ago I read these instructions in ALLDATADIY, but I could not remove the cover from its place. My car has hex screws instead of latches. I removed the screws but the cover seems to be attached by something else. How hard should I to pull it down? Seems to me that it swings from two plastic hinges located close to the firewall, is it so? Is there another latch or something retaining the cover, other than the screws? :confused: Your web site explains very clearly the engine comp filter change, but not much on the in cabin filter, from the ADDIY pics it seems easy. Help to the talentless would be much appreciated.:bowdown:
