I'm bringing my 1986 300SDL out of storage and insuring it again. It is now a second car, and I would like to save as much money as possible. The decision at hand is whether to pay the extra to carry collision and comprehensive in addition to the required liability. According the the agent I spoke to, if there were an accident they would base their valuation on the sale of similar vehicles locally (and further if necessary). The 300SDL isn't the most common, so their search will probably end up being national. Based on my own research, plus the value from NADA, I'm estimating a value of $4500. This seems worth it for me, but I wanted to see what others in the community are carrying.

Any input is welcome!

Thanks in advance!

I carry upgraded liability, and comprehensive with a zero deductable on glass. Collision just isn't worth it to me, in a few years I would pay more in premiums than I paid for the car. The zero deductable on glass costs me an extra 160 bux which i totally think is worth it. If anything happens to the rear window glass that alone is worth it to me.

After having 7 cars on my policy, I think that I am getting raped by state farm. I only carry liability on 5 of my cars. The companies should insure the individual and not the car.

collectors insurance is the only way to go on our older mb z..........i use american bankers ins collectors....

dont count on nada s values for use by insurance companies. get a stated value policy, that way if it get s totaled , your not out big bucks.

mine are insured as agreed values of
99 560sl 24,500
91 350sdl 27,500
77 450sl 17,500

I have collector insurance on my non-daily-drivers through Hagerty. My policy is 250/500/100 with agreed values:

1985 500SE, value at $15,000, $176 a year
1986 CJ7, value at $10,000, $117 a year
1978 Cherokee, value at $3500, $17 a year (yep!)

Add in PD, UM, etc. and my policy is $470 for all three cars for a year.
