I have just purchased a '96 G320. After doing so I discovered that my insurance company will not touch it.After about 4 hours on the phone talking to every insurance company in the world I have a tentative maybe.
My question is, whom do you guys use for full coverage insurance.
Thanks in advance

I use State Farm with a "Declared Vlaue" or something like that, policy. In essence, I say what it's worth and they charge me premiums based on that "totalling" value. If cost of repairs goes over my stated value, they can call it totalled. I think I have about $20k on my 280GE. It's been a while though so I should check up on it. Gotta call the agent today to approve some glass replacement anyway....

PS - can I assume from your screen name that you also have a NAS D90 converted to 300Tdi?

You'll find a lot of current and former LR owners here. I myself went through 97D90SW, 98DI, 92RR, 71 2A SW, before arriving at the G.

Are you familiar with D-90.com "The D-90 Source"? I developed that site with Q and ran the FAQ section of that one in my D90 days. After we both got into Gs we did a lot of the work on what's now clubgwagen.com and many of the articles in the G-tech section there are mine. Since then I've had less time (can you say 3 kids under 5?) and haven't done much web work at all. Still keep lots of my friends from LR days though.

All the best,

-Dave G.

i have my vette and supra through Ralley, give them a call. we got a skyline covered with them.

as he mentioned get stated valed or declared value. All companys call it different things but you want the one that will pay X amount of dollars if you have a loss. So say you paid oh 10K for it insure for $10k with the rider or more if they will.

Both my 84 280GE and my 2000 G500 have been insured with AMICA Mutual, using the official VIN's with no creative modifications.

I'm friends with some of the State Farm agents. I'm an adjuster, sometimes for State Farm. They couldn't seem to get it done without it costing a fortune.
Finally talked to AIG. They asked for federalization documentation ,and after receiving that, they were able to write it without any restrictions or creative manipulation. Also was very reasonable even with the hogher limits I always carry on my vehicles.

I had no problems with 21st getting the G insured. The first time I called, they were going to just insure it based on its value, but the second lady I spoke to was able to find a 1986 280GE insured to one of there customers in California and go off all of the specs. The insurance was fairly reasonable. Prolly helpful that the car was listed as an occaisional driver (less than 10k miles a year)

I use Allstate and my agent did some 'creative' booking. He had to modify the Vin by inserting a letter into the string of numbers. It is now listed as a C36AMG.
your insurance agent is doing you a diservice in my opinion. Most of us here have our G listed properly with our insurance companies. I bet if you have a claim your going to be in paperwork night mare. I'm also with state farm and have my G insured for a stated value for 35k. and my insurance comes out to only 92 a month. (29 year old) married but haven't gotten around to changing that on the policy so it should go down.

hmm this is interesting my 91 G is more expensive to insure than a 2005 saab

I own an insurance Agency for 20 yrs now.
In the age of computers, there really is no creative way of getting things done. Garbage in= Garbage out.

Insurance companies sometimes find ways of not paying a claim. Some companies even try to tell people that,"Even though you were stopped at a red light and our insured hit you in the rear, we are only paying 85% of the claim, because if you weren't there you would not have been hit"

I fear if you had a total loss, you may have a very hard time collecting without legal actions againt your agent.

It is true, alot of insurance companies will not due "Gray Market" cars, but alot of them will. Most every classic-exotic inusurance company does too,(if you drive limited miles a year with your truck.)

I added my G to my Mercury Insurance Policy myself on their system. When policy came back I noticed it said SE instead of GE, I called my underwriter who said they didn't cover G's before 2002 so I just added it to my classic-exotic policy.

This is a good warning for all pre 2002 G's to make sure your agent really knows what they are covering.
