Hi guys!

I had my car in the shop for a few months this summer, when I got it back I noticed I had a hard time reading the milage and the outside temperature, which are digital numbers in the middle of the instrument cluster. All the other lights are fine, but it's really hard to make out the numbers on the milage screen/trip/outside temperature.

I've tried a google search on the problem, can't find anything. Does any of you know if there are light bulbs for those screens or are they backlit in some other manner?

Thanks for any input!

Simple - you need to replace the light bulbs that light up the odo and temp.

If the bulb is wired into your array, you will need to have it replaced by someone who can solder new bulbs in. Earlier cars had that. Later cars came with a socket to replace the bulb when it burned out, a bit easier to replace.

Just be very careful when pulling the cluster out. Make sure you're using a good set of hooks because if they slip off when you're pulling, you're going to crack the plexiglass cover.

Don't ask me how I know. :crybaby2:

Thanks guys! Didn't want to pull out the instrument cluster without knowing if I had to, precisely because of the risk of cracking it :-/

or you can use suction cups. i always remove my cluster with suction cups its easier and less chance of ruining it. same on the w202, 208, 210, and 140. the w220 has keys like the w140s radio anywho.

i broke a w210 cluster with the hooks. very easy way is two good suction cups and don't force it out. have removed my w140 cluster at least 10 times. while your there check each bulb.
