Hi there,

I have a problem with my MB s320 (2002);

1. Last Friday the instrument cluster of the car completely went dead (no lights, no gauges, etc.).
2. Next day, the car wouldn't start: it appeared the battery was drained and needed replacement.
3. After replacing the battery, the instrument cluster still doesn't work.

I feel the bad battery and the instrument panel not working are related.

Any suggestions anyone? Perhaps a reset or something is needed?

Check the recalls for your car

You might have one of those cars that MBZ had a recall for a replacement head. They all were going out and the governing bodies that be made MBZ recall and replace almost all the heads from a certain period to a certain period.

Welcome to the forum Berentschot. You don't tell us where you live, which can lead to incomplete or wrong answers, especially when dealing with electronics. I am guessing Europe, because of the model year of your S320.

In the U.S. MB extended the warranty on instrument clusters for several models, including the S-Class, for 10 years from date of initial service. See the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1508080-w220-s-class-encyclopedia-start-here.html which discusses the warranty extension in the U.S.

I do not know what accommodation MB is making in Europe.

Skylaw you are correct

Please forgive me for not realizing that when he said S320 that it had to have been a European model. You are also correct that European models might be exempt from recalls as required in the US for recalls. Thank you for clarifying that. Again, I'm sorry to have answered before reading carefully.
