Hi Everyone, I am thinking about installing a K&N green filter on my new SLK 280. Had anyone ever experienced any negatives? From reading the forums my expectations are slighltly improved fuel economy and perhaps a more free revving engine.

Would you suggest that I tell the dealer to leave the filter 'as is' when I come to take the car for a service? Or should I drop the old filter in when that time comes? Perhaps you will say that I am being far too cautious and infact MB dealers see green filters on their cars everyday! I guess nobody has had any MB warranty issues as a result of green filter installation?

Finally, can anyone suggest a good UK source for such filters?

The standard filters will last 30k miles easily, maybe more.

Either you do the mod immediately, or you don't bother with it at all.

I haven't had any negatives with my installation, but if you do the mod incorrectly, you may risk having dirt enter your engine...

In my experience, I think my car resulted in having a slightly more free revving engine, a little burble from the exhaust when I let go of the accelerator pedal (after a little bit of pushing the car hard) and you might get 1 or 2 extra ponies as well. But at what cost? Approximately £100, which is kinda expensive for the gains you get.

But I'm not unhappy with my purchase, so it's up to each and everyone to decide if this mod if worth it.

Make sure before you install it, you keep it in the sun for 30-45 minutes to make sure the extra oil soaks Decreasing your chances of a blown "Maf".

Green Air Filters may be a safer bet than K&N.

Yup! I am new to all this and thought that K&N and Green were one and the same... So next question - which is more popular, K&N or Green?
Green is more popular with benzes, K&N is popular with all other cars, they are about the same, one is green and one is maroon.

Fitted Pipercross to my 350 and got great results... an extra couple of mpg, improved response and a nice sound as it 'gasps for air'...lovely.

Also like to think they had something to do with 158mph I managed to squeeze out of it on the German autobahn last week...

Just remember, when you let in MORE AIR you let in MORE DIRT!!!!!! No way around it. but you also get more intake NOISE!!! I'll stick with STOCK, thank you very much. Plus, the last time I checked a MAF sensor was only about $600 bucks!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!
