install LED emblem

Hello all,

I ordered a "cheap" LED emblem to change my basic car a bit and make it more exciting, I need a little advise (disclaimer: I have limited experience with electricity) .

I managed to easily reach the plugs for day time lamps and unplug them.

One choice is disconnect the day time lamps and connect the emblem on on of the lines (right or left). This seems to be easy enough...

Another choice is not to lose the day time lamps, but rather connect it on either of the lines in parallel (right of left) while keeping he day time lamp connected. Will this work? Will it affect the performance of the lamp sharing the same supply or with each lamp just pull the current it needs.

Another choice is to tap power from the connector going into to the head lamp, more specifically the low one supplying the low beam (I think the ballast is after this point so should not be an issue). The reason I am considering this choice is that I read the day time lamps dim when the head lights are on and I want the emblem to be clear.

I could be totally off in how I am approaching this... In that case please help me!

Hi,

I recently did it myself with close to zero knowledge in electricity.

I bought the following:

Star LED - 36$
Illuminated LED Light Front Grille Star Emblem Badge for 2013-2016 Mercedes New | eBay

Fuse Tap - 9$
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K17T0NU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tape:
https://www.amazon.com/DOOR-Electri...ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1493954710&sr=8-19-spons&keywords=insulation+tape&psc=1

Physical installation is pretty straight forward, just turn your original star clockwise to take it out and do the opposite to install the new one.

About the cabling, the Star LED comes with a long cable which contains one red and one black.
Red = electricity
Black = ground

What you need now is some basic tools and the tape.

Open the hood, and you will find the fuse box in the top right corner.
Open the fuse box, and you will see a lot of fuses.
In the fuse box, the right bottom corner will have 3 fuses that corresponds to the lights. You should have 2 reds (10) and one brown (7.5)
Remove the middle red fuse and check the following picture:
http://www.jex-electronics.com/ebay/images/fuses/jtb-mbt2.jpg

Once you have the fuse tap, you will need to put the original red fuse in the top part of the fuse tap as indicated in the picture and insert a new fuse (that already comes with the package of the fuse tap bought in amazon) with less resistance of 10 (I would suggest a 7.5 fuse)

Now that you have the fuse tap with 2 fuses (top=original red fuse 10, bottom=bought brown 7.5 fuse) it's time to plug the cables from the LED Star.

Split the cables so you can easily manage the red one, and link the LED star red cable with the blue part of the fuse tap (I didnt have proper tools so I cut both cables and used the tape to put them together)
With the black one, you will find close to the fuse box, a screw where other ground cables are attached. Just loose the screw a little bit, put the black cable between the screw and the car chassis and tighten it.

Insert the fuse box in the slot where you took the red fuse.

Turn on the engine and put the lights. That's it :D

A few typos:

Once you have the fuse tap, you will need to put the original red fuse in the BOTTOM part of the fuse tap as indicated in the picture and insert a new fuse (that already comes with the package of the fuse tap bought in amazon) with less resistance of 10 (I would suggest a 7.5 fuse) into the TOP slot as seen in the image:
