Hello,

I searched around on the forum and found some great information on changing the inner tie rods on my 2002 S500, but I cannot seem to find a reference to the size of the tool needed (40mm?), or any recommendations as to which tool to purchase.

Any suggestions for an inner tie rod tool would be great. The ideas for the ball joint replacement tool were really fantastic. Thanks in advance!

Adjustable wrench can be used, or you can use a measuring caliper to find out.

Inner Tie Rod Size

Sorry to bump this back up. Does anyone know the size needed for the tool to remove the inner tie rod? I have searched the forum without success and cannot find a reference. Thanks.

I measured a new genuine tie rod. The first measurement showed 40.4mm and I called it 40. Then I measured with a more accurate caliper, this one is showing 41mm.

LOL. Thanks for the measurements!

Is it possible to just use a an adjustable wrench? I would prefer to use a special tool, but I don't think I am getting anywhere close to finding one for the W220.
