Just got home after been recovered as my 2001 S320L cdi has shot an injector straight through the top of the engine!

What causes this?

Also, the injector is the end one right at the back of the engine (near windscreen) is this injector number one or six? Reason I ask is Mercedes replaced injector one and two just 4 weeks ago.

im not terribly familiar with the diesel injector setup, but I do know that the pressures involved are enormous (several hundred, if not thousand bar). If the injectors are held down by a bolt, that bolt may have come loose, and then the pressure may have just stripped the threads and out it comes.

Im purely guessing here, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if thats what happened.

Unfortunatly no I do not have any pictures yet as it is currently in Mercedes main dealer waiting to be repaired.

When you say stripped the threads does that mean the top of the engine will have to be re-threaded?
