this is my first post in w210 section, and i got to say,

i own few Mercedes. I have owned my e320 4matic for over 8 years,

and never had any problem, just oil changes tires brakes, battery, and front outer accel boots,

that is all, car has about 120k miles on it by now, and still drives like day one,

so in my opinion w210 is the way better then w124 and w123, not even talking about w220:thumbsup:

I have 96K miles on my 2002 E320 and a few $ here and there for a cat and some front end something-or-others and all is good. I test drove a 2010 a few months ago and didn't see the need to get a new car. Sure there are a few more gadgets and stuff, but nothing to warrant the cost of a new car. My car rides very good, but I"m putting in new motor mounts soon.

My current W210 experience is way better than expected. Given the considerable negative comments about how it's not a "real" MB anymore, it was with some trepidation that I stepped into the shoes of W210 ownership. Yes, I had to repair a few items on the car and there were a couple of not-so-reliable moments but this did not in anyway detract from the fun I had with it. A lot of fun too!

MBs, as with all cars I guess, perform remarkably well once you update the preventive maintenance items. Properly maintained, there's no reason to see why these models can't be as durable as the 124s. Except maybe for the plastic headlight lenses, of course.:D But I treat those as a preventive maintenance item as well.

Moreover, the overwhelming enthusiast participation and collective wisdom here in BW is a priceless asset to any MB owner.:) Sometimes I wonder if I own MBs just so I could hang out in BW, instead of the other way around.:p

Mers320--very good to hear about how much you like your car. I just bought my '02 210 wagon last week and it has some interior problems (fabric falling down, broken cup holder, broken visors, and some other details.) I'm at 100K miles, and although it was only 2 owners, it looks like the owner bought it certified. I got it because I heard how reliable it is. Even so, given the wear and tear on interior, it has me wondering who might abuse the interior like that, and if they treated other preventative maintenance the same. The carfax showed some pretty regular service re: basic fluids, but I'm going to call the dealership and see if they can give me the records.

I'm having my mechanic look it over next week, but any tips on preventative maintenance outside of the usual services would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

The W210 is a very solid car, except for the spring perch issue with the 2wd models which is inexcusable.

I'll forgive the rear window regulators as this isn't a safety issue, but its something they could have tried a little harder on. (Maybe the hydraulic windows of the 600 Grosser....???)

Better than expected.....

A fabulously designed and built car.

This is a 1,000,000 mile car.

If it didn't rust so badly I would agree. The spring perch issue is what really bothers me. What if one brakes down when your driving at 130 mph? I don't want to think about it.

Our W210 is having way more troubles than our original W163, who in 12 years generated about $300 in needed parts.
Than comparison is not quite fair. ML320 is slightly above 100k miles, the E300DT has 211,000

We also have lots of salt on the roads in the winter in Sweden, and almost every W210 that I see have rusted including mine.

But I agree on that it is a very nice ride, thats why I bought it

I used to own a 1997 W210, it was the most problematic Mercedes I have ever owned, but I still loved it. RUST was the biggest issue with this car, it rusted everywhere. I live in Minnesota so it snows heavy here during the winter and the roads are always salted. Most, not all, W210s I see in MN has the deadly rust on the body issue, especially on the sides. Although problematic it was a beautiful car with style.

because from your replays i feel like i'm w220 section not W210

and i would say that w220 is the worst Mercedes ever been made

After 5500 miles of ownership and a good amount of catchup maintenance at purchase, at 190k the car runs great, looks great and is a blast to drive. What's even better is these can be had for <10% of MSRP and have many miles of life left on them with routine maintenance.

I see cars as composed of shells w/components and powerplants - this shell is great - best I've ever owned and the power plant - needs more consistent TLC than their Japanese counterparts, else seem to hold up well.

I'm planning on top-end rebuild the coming year or two - then hoping for 300+k miles from this machine - 3k to keep me out of a car payment and make the motor close to new. It seems to be a Bay Area only car - no rust seen yet.

I agree with the op, I've owned this car longer than most and I have no plans to replace it any time soon. So far (125,000 miles) no major repairs.

German V8 is no match to American V8.
My 95 Ford Crown Vic beats my 99 E430 easily. All were driven from new.
Fixes on E430: 1 downstream O2 sensor, 2 engine mounts, 16 spark plugs, 16 spark plug wires, 1 MAF sensor, 1 brake light switch, 1 rear power window regulator, broken hinge in passenger side mirror, right rear lamp assembly, driver side floor mat, rattling catalytic converter. Current odometer: 130K miles.
Fixes on Crown Vic: 8 spark plugs, 8 spark plug wires, 1 water pump, 1 power window assembly. Current odometer: 190K miles.

W210 is the best of all...? I guess that depends on to which MB you compare it to.

Then again, I really have nothing too bad to say about it. Luckily there's not too much snow in Texas, so don't have to worry about rust. Mine has 208K miles on it so little things here and there are to be expected.

That is a big statement. I have owned the W124, W210, and am driving a W220. The W124 was the best built car that I have ever owned. The W220 is the nicest car that I have ever owned. The W210 is in the middle, with a nice build and nice features, but it was no W220.
