Looks like you need the Bumper Trim and Lower Bumper Valence, which snap in place with built in connectors. (Might be able to salvage the valence with some epoxy.) You will also need a new Tow Hook Cover (which is a snap in fitting, with two plastic lanyards) Try autopartswarehouse.com.

I earned the bumper replacement merit badge when my teenage son (pictured) swerved to miss a cat. He was a 'whisker' away from setting off the airbag when he hit the parking lot stanchon. It took me another month to get the body seams back into alignment.

Thanks for reviving this near dead thread guys. The part is on its way from Carson, California and should arrive here hopefully in a couple weeks. I can't find the tow hook cover anywhere online, except ebay, who is asking a mere $90 bucks...a little steep if you ask me but hey, I'll get there and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the responses.

fact150 - I had mine painted at a bodyshop (white with gray trim) for $300. I thought hard about DIY using one of the on-line paint stores such as automotivetouchup.com. I have since used that website to get numbers matching paint for minor repairs.

brandon - try autohausAZ.com for the tow hook cover. Its about $15, not including shipping.

Hey guys, I'm looking for help with this too. I was about to start a new thread but glad I searched first. How'd it turn out for you Brandon? I have a 95 E320 and judging from the pics I think we're dealing with the same impact strip/bumper trim. Put a decent dent in the impact strip so I'm trying to swap it out with one I just had painted.

My question is if there is a trick to getting the impact strip off without taking off the bumper cover. I've got mine halfway off but it snapped in half and has refused to budge further. All of the bottom clips are loose but the top ones are rather stubborn. From looking under the car it looks like quite a pain to take the whole thing off. And if you do take it off are you able to get right at the clips? I can't seem to find a DIY for it either. Any help would be appreciated. I can take pics if needed.

My part is not in yet. Although I do remember taking off a impact strip to a c230 a few months ago, we did take the bumper off but I'm not sure if it was necessary to get to the impact strip. Seeing how my 210 and the c230 are only a year apart (97,210- 98-c230) they should be similar in design...

Thanks for the reply. I've given up on trying to get it changed tonight. The top clips just won't come loose and they're impossible to get to from behind. Half of it came out fine. I may make a hole on the other side and try to come from the other way like I did with the first half. It just popped right out. I haven't been able to find very helpful info about bolt location or how to get it off. Here are some pics for reference, hope they work:

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm still waiting for my part too brandon but I'm trying to get a head start. I really thought I'd be able to replace the impact strip without having to drop the whole cover. I found this site which appears to be just what I'm dealing with.

http://www.2phast.com/190E/europlate.htm

He's able to just snap it on. I just don't understand why the one side won't pop off. I also don't understand how these guys are dropping the cover without jacking the car up. I can't access anything from under the hood because of the radiator.

I'm assuming these circles are where the other 4 bolts are? Also, I'm not seeing a mention of a center bolt on this one like is mentioned in that W124 write up.

Just want to update you guys. The body shown in the last pic I posted was exactly what I was dealing with. Dropping the whole bumper cover turned out to be rather easy. Just the 4 left and right center and 1 each on the far sides. I was able to squeeze under without jackin her up but it would have made it a lot easier. Now if only the dude at the body shop would've painted the impact strip the right color...

Thanks a lot atm. I plan on makin a little DIY for this body but I'm a little confused. It didn't have the middle bolt like the W124 DIY, so I'm guessing it's a W201? Not up on this stuff.

I've seen a lot of people using paintscratch.com. I haven't used them but that's where I got my color codes. My paint code was 702 which was located on a plate on top of the radiator. I think you can get a kit for $90. You don't need much. The guy that painted mine used a 1/2 pint but he didn't use it all. I got mine painted for $150.

Another note: You may need to trim your impact strip foam as stated in the 2phast DIY. I put mine back on but it isn't flush. Now I've gotta do it over again and try to trim it to fit.

Search by year and it will show the colors for that year.If it is original color most merc's have the paint code on the radiator cross beam. This is from Paint Sctach as well.

Mercedes - Located by the radiator. Right in the middle of a bunch of numbers. We get more emails from Mercedes owners due to the confusing color code markings. First look at the colors shown on our site and write down the the most probable color codes. Now, try to find this grouping of numbers on your vehicle. Some Mercedes have DB in front of the color code, but most do not. More information on: Mercedes Paint Codes

I'm trying to figure out who to replace the impact strip on my 98 e300. Mine lost the right 18" when it got snagged pulling away from a concrete parking bumper. two local body shops told me only way to replace this $130 strip is a removal of the entire front bumper. Please tell me there isn't a simpler way. What's the value of a replacable "impact strip" if the repair cost is several hundred?

Sure miss my old 300D where things (electrical, mechanical) were built better and cheaper to get at and repair.

To help you with an idea of what this looks like:

The impact strip for the bumper cover is held on by snap clips. See first photo. You have a '98, which may be different than my '97. Second photo shows how they snap in from the inside look.

Impact strip replacement

My impact strip came right off really quite easily. I just used a fence in our front yard while backing out of the driveway. No it wasn't an intentional removal process, but it did come right off, in multiple pieces.

Now my problem is locating an ideally silver Impact Strip for the front of my 1997 w210. Anyone have a source?

Also, do the snap back on in any certain way or is it pretty obvious how it goes back on?

What was amazing was the I hit the fence pretty hard, hard enough to shift the entire fence over by about 8 inches and this impact strip and a couple of small scratches was all that were damaged on my Mercedes.

What you see on the outside are scratches on bumper covers, while the impact is carried by bumper reinforcement below it. The reinforcement is pretty strong, but the impact is carried onto the brackets and that is what suppose to be inspected after incident.
One of our members was rear ended by Toyota and I have seen the results. Small scratches on E bumper and piled up hood on Toyota. He posted pictures in picture thread.

^^+1^^

Any moderate damage may be manifest in a off-center collision by a loose or misaligned headlamp, and increase/decrease panel/fender gaps.

The long bumper impact strip is easy to snap in place and can be sourced online. I bought one from AutohouseAZ, but it was a few years ago.

The two chrome wings on either side a more complicated and require removal of the bumper cover to attach.
